Why Job Search at year-end and throughout the Holiday Season is a Brilliant idea.

Here's why Job Searching during the festive Holiday Season is such a brilliant idea!! Job searching during the holidays can add stress to an already stressful time of year, but there is an upside to job searching and interviewing during the holidays.

Since about 20% of job seekers opt out of job searching during the holidays and early January! Think about it: A fifth of your competition just left the market! So now is the time to capitalize on that advantage.

?How do you beat the Holiday Job Search blues?

1.?????? Create complete job applications, and resist the urge to email a blind resume to the hiring manager even if you are well acquainted. Employers seeking to hire are more likely to view resumes in an online format they are accustomed to using. The rest goes to the bin.

2.?????? Please follow the job application instructions.?Ignoring directions is evidence that you do not/will not follow directions - yet you wonder why they have not called on your resume! Is your job application over a month old? Please go back and fine-tune it.

3.?????? If you applied a few weeks ago without a response, you may have fallen to Resume 100. Nobody reads that many. Tidy up or enhance your objective or resume summary so your info looks new or relevant.

4.?????? While making business and job search connections during the holidays is easier, remember to connect with professionals on a comparable career level or someone with responsibilities equal to yours. Connect with individuals who may influence hiring decisions and are most likely to communicate your experience accurately.?

Take a good attitude and your electronic business card to holiday functions. Add job search chat to your seasonal greeting. Done well, it can elicit positive responses. Hint: Please do not email your resume to the newly introduced while at holiday functions.

Some of the best salary offers are made during this upbeat time of year - so hang in there!!

?No hits or interviews after three weeks, or you attempt to apply for a job, and it details that one hundred people have already applied - thrash the whole thing. Re-read the job description to see if it has been corrected or upgraded. If the edits or additions improve your match, revamp or bolster your resume and profile accordingly.?Do it yourself, or invest in your career and engage a professional resume writer and career strategy consultant to renovate your resume and provide insights that will enhance your job search and get you noticed for the right reasons.

Great advice for anyone feeling discouraged about the job search, this is a great time for networking and socializing with a chance to make new connections and listen to what's being talked about. Keeping up in the industry you are looking to make your way into gives you something to talk about on that interview

Thanks for sharing! A great perspective. I like the idea of “Tidy-up or enhance your objective or summary, so your info looks new”

That's the thing about taking the initiative, regardless of the time of year. However, this approach can be troublesome if you have just a marginal level of interest in changing jobs. Job searching goes best when your need for a change is fierce. so the holiday season can be distracting.

These are good ideas, JPR. We need to be decisive when addressing a career upgrade need regardless of the time of year. We should approach the job search intensely and wholeheartedly. A career upgrade solution could be just around at your current company! Great post. And something to think about.

This is an excellent reminder that the holiday season may be a great time to meet people,?who can help you advance your career at your present firm. It is not about leaving your current employer. Sometimes the solution to a problem is to lean in and accept that you can make a subtle change or find your next career and continue working at your present company.
