One of the key things I focus on when I run my LinkedIn Kickstart course is the mindset stuff.
Lots of coaches talk about mindset, but what exactly do we mean? And why's it so important?
Here's my take on it - your mindset is the collection of thoughts, actions and beliefs that shape your thinking. In turn this affects what you feel, how you behave and therefore the results you get.
It’s a chain reaction … your thoughts and your beliefs evoke emotions or feelings
How you feel determines how you behave. In other words, what you say or do.
And because your results depend on what you do, you can see how important it is to understand your thoughts and beliefs that underpin your feelings.
Fix your thoughts and get different results
So it's simple then.
Fix your thoughts. Fix your feelings. Take different actions. Get different results.
It sounds straightforward on paper, doesn't it. That’s where it gets tricky.
Very often we are not aware of our thoughts and beliefs; they are unconscious. We have thousands of thoughts going through our heads every day yet we are mostly unaware of them.
Now can you start to see why if you're job hunting, it's not just a matter of fixing your LinkedIn profile and writing your CV.
It's also about developing the right mindset so that what you say and do at interview, gets you that job.
And that's why we spend time in the LinkedIn Kickstart exploring your values and sorting out your mindset.
Because negative thinking and fear limits your actions and therefore your job hunting success.
How to develop a success mindset for job hunting
Here are five ways you can start to develop the success mindset you need for job hunting:
- Start noticing your negative thoughts. Notice what you notice. Ask yourself "what's the evidence? for this thought.
- Identify any unhelpful beliefs you hold and replace them with positive beliefs. Write down the positive more helpful beliefs and read them out loud every day.
- Put yourself in challenging situations. What scares you? What feels way outside your comfort zone? Do some of that! It doesn't need to be all at once but take small steps.
- Find your tribe ... we all need support and encouragement. Surround yourself with positive successful people. People who will support you, encourage you and help you celebrate your success.
- Start a success journal and take time every day to reflect and celebrate your wins that day. Record your goals and what you want to achieve. Think about those goals in the present tense so that they start to become real.
Developing a success mindset on your own can be hard. That's why I love running my online group programmes. Because together we achieve SO much more.
But if you're on your own, be part of my group action today.
Comment below and tell me which one of these you'll start today to get the success mindset you need for job hunting.
