Why I've created tiered, equitable pricing.

Why I've created tiered, equitable pricing.

I have recently been called to address my pricing, and the availability of coaching to those who are not yet at a point where they can afford my full investment, and especially for those who are relying on Access to Work funding for ADHD coaching.

Inspired by Simone Seol (who does this beautifully) and her inspiration, Worts + Cunning, I have created tiered, equitable pricing for my 1:1 and group coaching programmes.

Tiered pricing means you get to choose the pricing tier for the service that feels right for you, based on your situations right now. Yes, it relies on integrity, and yes, I believe that most people will use this in an honest and open way. The opportunity to receive coaching for your ADHD and for your business should not be limited by your current economic situation.

I want to help to create a conscious, intentional and value-aligned culture of payment. Please read the following criteria and determine which price is appropriate for you:

The highest £ cost reflects the true cost of the service. It is the cost that I charge you in the absence of a sliding scale. If you have access to financial security, own property or have personal savings, you would not traditionally qualify for sliding scale services. If you are able to pay for "wants" and spend little time worried about securing necessities in your life, you have economic privilege and power in our community. This price is for you.

The middle cost reflects the acknowledgement that paying the full cost would prevent you from being able to get the support you need, but who do not honestly find yourself reflected in either descriptions for the highest cost or the lowest. If you are struggling to conquer debt or build savings or move away from paycheck to paycheck living but have access to steady income and are not spending most of your time thinking about meeting basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, child care, etc., you belong here. If you, however, can ask others for financial support, such as family members, partners, or friends, please consider using those personal resources before you use the resources of the sliding scale and limit opportunities for others.?

The bottom cost represents an honest acknowledgment that your economic circumstances may prevent you from receiving any coaching support if there was not a deliberate opportunity made for you to access services at a cost that is reflective of your economic realities. If you struggle to maintain access to needs such as health care, housing, food, child care, and are living paycheck to paycheck or are in significant debt, you probably belong here and you deserve a community that honors your price as equal an economic offering as the person who can pay the highest tier.?

Even when the lower tier is still prohibitive, I work to offer extended payment plans and other solutions.

There are limited places offered at the middle and lower end of the scale, so be mindful that if you purchase a price at the lowest end of the scale when you can truthfully afford the higher ticket prices, you are limiting access to those who truly need the gift of financial flexibility. Being honest with yourself and your financial situation respects the work of coaches and creators, like myself, who have families to support and rent to pay. Additionally, when I am paid fairly, I am able to invest more time and resources to free and lower cost offerings.

So, to summarise:

The top tier pricing - it should feel like a stretch, but possible:

  • I am comfortably able to meet all of my basic* needs
  • I may have some debt but it does not prohibit attainment of basic needs
  • I own my home or property OR I rent a higher-end property
  • I own or lease a car
  • I am employed, my business is successful or do not need to work to meet my needs
  • I have regular access to health care
  • I have access to financial savings
  • I have an expendable** income
  • I can always buy new items
  • I can afford an annual vacation or take time off

The middle tier pricing:

  • I may stress about meeting my basic needs but still regularly achieve them
  • I may have some debt but it does not prohibit attainment of basic needs
  • I own or lease a car
  • I am employed
  • I have access to health care
  • I might have access to financial savings or Access To Work funding
  • I have some expendable income
  • I am able to buy some new items & I thrift others
  • I can take a vacation annually or every few years without financial burden

The lower tier pricing:

  • I frequently stress about meeting basic needs and don’t always achieve them
  • I have debt and it sometimes prohibits me from meeting my basic?
  • needs
  • I rent lower-end properties or have unstable housing
  • I do not have a car and/or have limited access to a car but I am not always able to afford fuel
  • I am unemployed or underemployed
  • I qualify for government benefits
  • I have no access to savings
  • I have no or very limited expendable income
  • I rarely buy new items because I am unable to afford them
  • I cannot afford a vacation or have the ability to take time off without financial burden

This system requires trust, but I operate from a place of absolute trust and belief in my clients, so I’m confident it will help some of you access services that were previously unaffordable.

As an example, my 1-2-1 ADHD coaching package for 12 sessions over 12 weeks has the following pricing tiers:

Top: £4,000

Middle: £2,250 - only 2 spaces available at any time

Lower: £1,500 - only 2 spaces available at any time

If you're interested in any of my services, and want to know the equitable pricing tiers available to you (my website isn't up to date with this yet!), just drop me a DM here on LinkedIn, or an email at [email protected].

Love the way you've detailed the tiers and shared the pricing context. Really refreshing and shows pricing doesn't need to be a difficult topic.

It is so refreshing to see you share context on this. I often think pricing can become a sensitive topic when it doesn’t need to be.
