1. When they talk to you on the phone, they talk down to you, they might even use swearing language, on the conversation.
2. You gave them a project price but they treat you like your working for them by the hour as an employee.
3. They asked you to put together a timeline, but when you did, they don't follow their part of things, which throws the whole timeline off and then they blame you.
4. No matter how much you give them or how hard you work they always want more!
5. They just don't understand that when you're working on the Internet, things don't always go like you planned, and if they don't get back to you there are often delays.
6. All the other clients you have pay by credit card which means when it comes time to pay the bill, you don't have to chase them for money. With the bad client it is the one time you allowed them to pay you by E-Transfer, and getting them to pay you one time is a nightmare. You're not in the business of chasing your clients down for money!
7. They may have done what you're doing for them once before, and that makes them the expert, which they will remind you on a regular basis, that they know more than you.
8. They will scrutinize every item that you are doing for them, won’t release due payments, and will make sure that you know exactly how unhappy they are about your work and your prices.
You’ll hear gems like:
“Why are you charging for copywriting? Any moron with a pen can write!”
“Your last campaign got us an ROI of 500%, but it really wasn’t up to my standards”
I just had to fire a bad client, Every time I talked to them on the phone it made me feel like I needed a shower afterwards. I felt sick inside for days.
I would love to hear your input on your bad client stories.
