Why It's Important To Protect Your Time

Time is something to keep in mind.

How you control your time.

Why is it important?

To understand how to manage it.

When you use these time tips, you will be better equipped for life.

Even when you are busy.

Now, let's go.

Time Tip #1: To say no in a polite way.

We get caught up with invitations to events or parties.

Last August, someone wanted to invite me to a Zoom session.

Because I love transcribing or summarizing webinars for people, this is one time I had to put my foot down.

She kept asking:

"What are your rates?"

Because she didn't want me to share the notes or pay in a fair way.

Since I felt uncomfortable, this is the script I used:

"Hi (Name)

Thanks for this invitation. I’m flattered! Unfortunately, I’ve got my

priorities set for the year and this just doesn’t fit in. Again, thanks for thinking of me.

Craig"

13 minutes later, she said:

"I understand. Thanks for letting me know."

This script helps you be honest with yourself about what’s important.

Time Tip #2: Schedule your time.

We all have a busy schedule.

With career chats, I have to schedule chats on my phone or on Google calendar.

Helping busy people schedule is helping you schedule your life.

You can schedule what is important in your calendar.

Set weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly to-dos.

Examples include:

Relationship catch-ups, the detergent to re-order.

I learned this quote:

"If it's not on your calendar, it doesn't exist."

Time Tip #3: Making a decision and move

We get stuck on making a move that we don't move.

If you have to choose between two different books, buy both.

One idea is worth the price.

At worst, you can donate it to a friend or a local library.

From this article, my hope is for you to take one idea and manage your time.

What else did I miss about making time count?

I would like to highlight scheduling your time. It beats the stuffing out of traditional todo lists. And when you are doing your most important work, establish a pregame ritual to get your mind in a state more accepting of flow.

There is always a better way to decline an invitation politely, and you shared a great script. I always think if something align with my present and future goals or not, Craig Davis

Your 1st time tip Craig; is one that can really “free” someone up from overcommitting themself. You also can say no and if this opportunity aligns for someone in your network put their name in the room. And you could offer to make a warm introduction…

Nice one Craig Davis I think the way you handled the situation in tip 1 is perfect. I'm a firm believer in being straight up with people and having a firm 'yes' or a firm 'no'. Keep it simple
