Why it's important to nurture relationships

Dear purposeful and purpose filled communicators,

I am about to leave for Riyadh next week to lead workshops on delivering presentations with meaning and executive presence for a couple of groups of female leaders at the stc Academy, but before I do, I have one question to ask of you.

Stay with me to the end and I will share request.

?Because first I want to share how meaningful my recent trip to the Philippines was and why it can serve as a reminder for each of us.

Two weeks ago was my first trip to Manila. I was traveling there to work with teams from KPMG – many of whom I’d already worked with virtually over the past two years. But now -because of the ongoing relationship I’d built with their Director of Learning and Development, Marijune Mallari -I was being given the opportunity to work with them again: in person!

What a joy.?

One participant's sharing of the workshop

?To help people explore the range of who they are and how they perform as professionals is such a great reward.?

But being able to support in-person is still unlike nothing else.

?While I was there I also took the opportunity to reach out to two of my friends from my days working at CNN.? John Bennett and his wife Armie and I reconnected, explored the city together as you only can when you’re with a local, and enjoyed talking about old times and making new memories.

Long-time former CNNers and still-time friends together again. Business relationships are still relationships.

?

That’s the point, friends.

?It doesn’t have to be Saudi Arabia or to the Philippines, but in our lives, we go places – if only to the corner coffee shop.?

Think for a moment, how many people do you make relationships with? At what level?

?Are you actively nurturing them? Or are you passing them by as you rush to your next whatever?

Let me remind you something – relationships are the bread and butter of life, both in business and beyond! I'm talking about connections that can change your world, lift you up, and open doors you didn't even know existed.

Opportunities Galore: Networking is like a treasure hunt. You never know when you'll find that golden opportunity. Building relationships widens your horizons and exposes you to new paths and ventures.

Trust is Everything: Trust me, trust is the glue that holds relationships together. In business, trust builds credibility, and in personal life, it forms the foundation of meaningful connections.

Mentorship Matters: Having mentors or experienced friends can save you from rookie mistakes. They've been there, done that, and can provide invaluable guidance. I still keep in touch with the very first mentor I had.? WTTG’s Ron Gardner. Thanks, Ron!

Support System: Life can be a rollercoaster. Your network becomes your support system during tough times, offering a shoulder to cry on and a hand to pull you up.

Knowledge Sharing: Sharing is caring! People you connect with bring different perspectives and knowledge to the table. Learning from others is a lifelong journey.

Collaboration is Key: In business, collaboration can lead to innovation and growth. In life, it can lead to unforgettable experiences and adventures.

Personal Growth: Healthy relationships challenge you to become a better version of yourself. They motivate and inspire you to reach your full potential.

Emotional Well-being: Good relationships reduce stress and contribute to happiness. They offer emotional support and a sense of belonging.

Career Advancement: In the business world, relationships often open doors to promotions, new job opportunities, and career advancement.

Pay It Forward: When you build and nurture relationships, you also have the chance to pay it forward by helping others. Being a connector and helping others succeed can be immensely rewarding.

So, folks, whether it's in business or your personal life, remember that relationships are the secret sauce to a fulfilling and successful life.

Go out there, make connections, nurture them, and watch your world blossom!

And now, here’s my one question for you, the wonderful relationships that I hope you are.

?I am soon going to be launching a refresh of my website.?

When I do:

Who would like to take a look and give me their constructive feedback?

?

Send me a quick message to let me know.?

?And thank you. I appreciate each and every one of you.

?

Every kindness,

Gina
