Why It's Best To Get To Know People

Last week, I had three different Zoom calls.
A connection from LinkedIn and two who weren't spoken to in years.
To get to know people, you have to speak to people.
Put your ego to the side and be interested.
Here are three lessons on what I learned:
Lesson #1: People want to know who you are offline.
It's a heart-to-heart moment when you speak to someone.
Outside of social media, who are you?
My first chat last Monday was about getting to know her family.
She was excited to catch up with me and didn't want me to be a stranger.
She wanted to thank me for the community help online in a group.
Because she was in an area with mosquitos, I recommended vinegar to spray to protect herself.
To expand your world, open up your world.
Lesson #2: To be human and not robotic.
My second chat is with someone in the startup world.

She was so happy I emailed the questions ahead of time and we caught up last Wednesday.
The last time we spoke was in July 2020.
I didn't smile on the phone and was robotic as Rosie the Robot in The Jetsons.
This time, I was full of energy, finally cracked jokes, and paraphrased what she last said.
In other words, I showed active listening by paying attention.
She appreciated it.
Talk like a human, crack jokes once in a while and show your personality.
Lesson #3: Share who you are and what you recommend.
My last chat was with a LinkedIn connection.
She appreciated that I supported her posts.
We both shared last Thursday the same thought process about value-driven comments.?
When you share who you are, you don't have to hide who you are.
We each shared people to recommend when it comes to engaging in their posts.
Always share. You never know who can help you.

1 年Thank you Craig, I get to know a lot of people when they are guests on my show, I need to be more conscious of going beyond that.
Not sure if you missed anything, I believe it's beautiful when you let the conversation bloom on the spot, give all the trust for momentum, let two people be creative, and show interest in the discovery process. It's so rewarding to get to know something you haven't even imagined. The magic of surprise has always been a winning approach for me.

2 年People want to get to know people and work with people (not robots). The tendency to get robotic is high in some industries. But it's important to keep the human aspect in mind, always!
