Why is ISO 20121 so important?
IELA - The Int. Exhibition Logistics Association
Association
The internet provides so many great opportunities and new openings, but will never provide the true value and sheer enjoyment of meeting face-to-face at events.
This applies not only to trade shows and exhibitions, but to all events like Olympic Games and rock concerts, a community fundraiser event or even a political summit of global leaders. These are all events which involve face-to-face interaction.
Whilst events are amazing and give that interaction for which humans crave, there can also be a downside to these events which can leave an aftermath of problems. A large number of people coming together in one place can cause strain to the environment and local resources. Another challenge is the number of different people involved in creating the event.
ISO 20121 provides guidance and best practices to help manage an event and control its social, economic and environmental impact – from the smallest get-together to a large summit.
The standards have been developed by representatives from different segments of the events industry to tackle the event’s industry challenges in all stages of the supply chain.
The event professionals who can benefit from ISO 20121 include:
- Event organisers
- Event owners
- Workforce
- Supply chain
- Participants
- Attendees
- Regulatory bodies
- Communities
Reaching the ISO 20121 goals is possible.
We need to make it a goal and start taking steps to change our business style to fit that of ISO 20121.
As an initiative to support sustainable behaviour in the Exhibition Logistics industry and in order to leverage new conduct patterns, methods and technologies, IELA published the IELA Sustainability Guidelines on October 2019.
