Why Isn’t Your Sales Nav Location Search Working?
Have you ever tried looking for leads in a city but haven’t found… anything relevant??
Or did you later realize you missed great candidates just outside your search area??
The geography filter in Sales Navigator isn’t always as specific as you would want, but with a couple of simple fixes, you can definitely find the right people.
Let's have a look at them.
1?? Use Metro Areas, Not Just Cities
Problem: Searching for a single city, like “San Francisco,” might exclude leads in nearby business hubs.
Fix: Use a metropolitan area instead of a specific city.?
? Example: Try “San Francisco Bay Area” instead of “San Francisco.”
?? Why? Metro areas include surrounding cities, so you don’t miss out on quality prospects.
2?? Add Nearby Locations
Problem: Some professionals may live in one city but work in another.
Fix: Widen your search query to include nearby cities rather than just one city.
? Example: If you are looking for technology companies in the City of Boston, include Cambridge and some of the nearby towns in your search inquiry.
?? Why? Because this will capture folks who "commute to work" or are in more flexible working situations.
3?? Use Local and English Job Titles for Global Searches
Problem: Different countries use different job titles. If you are searching only in English, you may not have access to all the right candidates.
Fix: Include both the local-language job title as well as the English title.?
? Example: Searching for “Marketing Director” in Germany? Add “Leiter Marketing,” too.
?? Why? This way, you can be assured of finding professionals in the area who may have different job titles.
4?? Identify future moves and expansions
Problem: Potential leads may be relocating soon or working for companies that are expanding; however, they have not updated their profile.?
Fix: Filter your search by previous locations or companies opening new offices to connect with prospects ahead of your competition!?
? Example: Looking to recruit in Texas? Find leads that previously worked in California and now work for California companies expanding into Texas.
?? Why? You’ll reach them before they make the move! ??
Final Fix: Test & Adjust
LinkedIn’s location data isn’t always accurate!
If your search results seem wrong, tweak your filters!
And remember,
Small changes = better and faster leads ??
