Why iPhone 7 users will have a bad time
I stumbled upon a great article from Steve Friess on Quartz (thanks Remco Slotboom). Steve uses the Lightning to USB Cable product page on Apple.com as a reference for his article. This is where it gets interesting and why I can say with confidence that future owners of the iPhone 7 are going to have a bad time.
Below you can see the review statistics of the Apple Lightning to USB Cable and one of the 2305 reviews. 1855 out of 2305 reviewers gave the lighting connector a 1 Star rating. It makes me wonder why you would launch a product that can only be used in combination with this clearly bad piece of connector technology. When people start to use this with headphones, then you will probably see the same ratings or worse.
An even bigger issue will be when the lighting port inside the iPhone 7 will break, due to the movement of the big hard outer part of the connector. We have already seen this problem with the current audio jack, which results in poor sound quality. But breaking the lighting connector will render your iPhone useless.
This problem is keeping me busy for quite some time now and I have found a solution for the audio jack. I cannot save the people from the bad lighting connector, I do however try to save the rest.
