WHY INVEST IN BUILDING A BRAND?

Branding was originally the process of clamping a red-hot wrought-iron design onto the buttocks of livestock to establish who owned them. A painful proposition, but an important one.....reflecting the agony one most go through in establishing their brand/reputation.

While, a brand is the reputation, perception, face of a product or service, it simply an intangible that is “unique, consistent, and consistently positive”.....which generates positive attitudes and perceptions of itself, in the minds of its target audience.

A good brand is powerful as it helps attain prime space in one’s target audience’s mind, communicates trust, quality, value, and encourages trial.

This is akin to how we assess people in everyday life and use their faces only to remind us of such assessments of them, in seconds. First impressions, while not perfect, are extremely good guides to one’s character. Thereafter, how the brand treats you, how reciprocal it is in ideas, how hospitable, how friendly, how trustworthy, how useful....... all collectively help build the fuller picture, as a part of the difficult journey of building greater trust....and leading to acceptance.

So use this a simple principle to determine either how people see you in your personal life and/or even consider using this simple demystified approach as a guideline for even building the product/company brand that you seek to build in your professional lives!

Absolutely spot on Mr Rajeev. The tools which are available today provide a means to this end. I have no doubt that the traditional tool of networking is most effective. But added to this are the effective and ethical use of media presence. While working for social causes is important, highlighting these through digital media guess a long way in personal branding.

Brilliantly elucidated. Though at personal level, I find personal branding a challenge. I was reading yesterday that even Peter Drucker insisted on being called a writer after being a management consultant, a writer and a teacher. In fact, he was the one who coined the term "knowledge work".?
