Why are interns important to your business?
When we talk about expanding our business or starting new one - we always note 3 important things: fresh ideas, good development, and effective results. It is hard to achieve all of these goals with few employees and a tight budget. Like each entrepreneur business owners have creating strategies but hiring interns is rarely part of those strategies. The ‘’internship’’ subject is discussed all the time but mostly from the point of the intern and his own benefit. We should note also the benefit that an organization can get by hiring in intern or several interns.
An intern can bring some fresh ideas and also can show a better way of doing things. With the right supervision and trainee the intern knows exactly what is expected from him or her and is given the resources to make it happen. Another benefit of having an intern is the technology knowledge that young people have today – social media, apps, iPads, web development and digital services – they know them all and they can show you how the ‘’modern’’ toys can be helpful for your business.
Internship doesn’t mean ‘’be my handyman and do everything what I have enough time to do”. Give your intern real, meaningful work, so he will show you his potential and can be able to give his best for your company.
Hiring an intern helps spread the word about your company—whether you mean to or not. If you’re an impressive internship supervisor and mentor, your interns will probably talk about their experience with peers, friends and family members, essentially advertising for your organization (but it’s free!).
IMPORTANT! Don’t hire an intern if you need free labor. Nobody works for free today even the interns! Try to offer your inters paid internship because this will stimulate them to use their full potential. Don’t also hire an intern if you are too busy and have no time to give your intern the right tasks, advices and supervision.
It's not hard to see why many companies hire interns on a regular basis. The benefit that they can bring to an organization is immeasurable and as a company it feels good knowing that your efforts are helping train young people to become successful as they enter the future workforce.
