Why is the internet so slow in Bargara?
You've had a long day at work. You've finally got dinner out of the way and all the domestic duties sorted and are ready to hit the couch and watch your favourite series on Netflix with a beer or glass of wine. You've gotten yourself comfortable on the couch and pressed play on your series. Finally, some you time to chill.
Then you see the dreaded wheel. WHY THE HELL WON'T IT START!!
We've all had that frustration where our internet is so bad we turn into raving lunatics at the very moment we should be in our happy place. Instead of being in a state of zen, we're loosing our minds. We go and tell the kids to get off of all their devices to save every little bit of the internets we can but it doesn't make any difference.
Now we have to settle for another lame reality TV experience.
So why does this happen?
In Australia our downloads increased 33% from 2015 to 2016 and with the increase of streaming services like Netflix I don't see that slowing down. In places like Bargara where you are lucky enough to get an ADSL connection (many of my clients have reported they can't get access to an ADSL port because they are all allocated) we are faced with a network that is at capacity. That same network was built with calculations from before Netflix was even thought of and before our internet reliance was even half of what it is today.
To put it simply, think of a water reservoir with only a certain amount of connections and they've all been taken. Then imagine that every single connection is starting to use 33% more water each year. The result would be really low pressure and the Council would implement water restrictions. Well that's kind of what is happening with our internet. The only way to fix the problem is to increase the size of the reservoir, or increase the size or pressure in the main pipe feeding the reservoir.
Ok, that sounds easy enough so why hasn't that happened already?
Well when our incumbent infrastructure provider is holding a monopoly and increasing capacity won't really increase their revenue, why would they? Especially when you add to that the fact they have sold that network to NBN which when it finally rolls around will do the upgrading (cough) anyway.
So we're stuck then?
For now maybe, but I know people are dying for better treatment and for better connectivity and that is why I have been on a hunt to find the solution. We are almost ready and we guarantee that when you finally get a chance to put your feet up and relax, your internet will be ready for you.
