Why Indradev and Not Suryadev is Head of Gods

Why Indradev and Not Suryadev is Head of Gods

There are basically two major reasons why Suryadev is not the head of all Gods. Male Primogeniture. - Indra is the oldest of all Devas. He is the first son of Rishi Kashyap and his wife Aditi. Indra is the best warrior amongst all the devas. His most famous victory is over Vritrasur. Other Devas including Surya have no major conquest by themselves to their name. But this is as per Purana. The logical reason however is Sun though responsible for existence of the solar system as well as life on earth is not catastrophic. Sun does not kill through a lightning strike or cause floods that can destroy cities or a drought that starves people

Therefore Indra the god of lightning and rain is given a more prominent position compared to Surya who looks and behaves milder in comparison. Firstly Indra is not a coward, not a wimp and definitely not a push over. Indra in the Vedas is one of the most powerful and beautiful manifestations of the Atman. He is not lower to any God, whether it be Vishnu or Shiva. Indra is the ruler of all bipeds, quadrupeds, avians and aquatic animals. He is the master of the three worlds, not by the mercy of any deity, but by his own deeds and self right.?

In the RigVeda, remember this, all the gods fled seeing Vritra only Indra didn't. Indra alone faced Vritra. He was alone enough to destroy Vritra. He brought out his little sister Ushas and his brother Surya, by clefting the cave of Vala. He brought the waters for this subcontinent. He is so strong and huge that both heaven and earth equals only half of his cosmic self. He is the upholder of the weak, the protector of the distressed. Just after being born Indra grew in size and slayed the serpent Vritra. In the Kaushitaki Upanishad Indra says to Divodasa Paijavana that He alone is the Atman. He is the Self of all. It's like Indra Gita.

Indra in the Atharva Veda is the cosmic pillar or Stambha that upholds the cosmos. Indra is so strong and Divine that He made the earth stable and measured out the atmosphere. He alone is Varuna. Varuna himself says that I alone am Indra. Varuna is like the unmanifest Brahman and Indra is the Manifest Brahman. Indra is not just a simple ruler of the skies and rains. He is the Lord of the Sun, Ritam ( cosmic law) , thunder, rain, knowledge, warfare, horses, cows , dawn and the self. When someone says Indra is Indriya, it's wrong, He is the overlord of the Indriyas, the senses. He controls the Indriyas. His net is the Buddhist net of Indrajala. Indrajala is the cosmic net of maya that binds all beings in this universe, a gigantic net of consciousness.

Due to the passing away of the Yajnic practices, Shiva, Vishnu, and Devi rose in popularity. The Puranic writers maligned Indra. He became a post. The funny part is that the Puranic writers or rather interpolators are so self contradicting that in the Brahmanda Purana they say Indra is a post, and then in another chapter they say that the same Indra is reborn in all the Manvantaras. Regarding Ahalya, Ahalya means the unploughed field. Indra is the vast sky. Indra loves the unploghed land therefore he rains over them and thus the vast outgrowth. Now even if you don't take this interpretation. Remember, Indra is Kaushika himself and in Mandala 1 he is called Kaushika. Ahalya in one version of the story is not Gautama's wife but Kaushika's in the Mahabharata. Therefore it's not illegal or adultery.

And definitely its not rape. If you consider the first account of the Ahalya incident in the Valmiki Ramayana, Ahalya willingly participates in the act, it was consensual. But then again the entire tale is of a later date. Similarly the story of Indra having intercourse with Vapushtama the wife of Janamenjaya ( it's actually an apsara) is also of a later age in the Harivamsa which itself is a Khila or appendage to the Mahabharata. Regarding the Govardhana incident, many people don't read the incident carefully. It appears first in the Harivamsa. There Indra test Krishna, who is Indra's little brother. Krishna doesn't stop India's worship, in Govardhana puja, Krishna says there should be two pole of worship one for Krishna and one for Indra.

Remember in Shrimad Bhagwad Gita Shri Krishna himself says among the gods I am Indra. He deeply loves Arjuna who is Indra's son. In Ramayana, it is Indra who blesses Rama reviving his Vanara army. It is Indra's bow, quiver and sword Rama gets from Agastya. Indra sends his own Chariot and Matali his charioteer for Rama. Indra deeply loves Vishnu. Why? Because they are one and the same. We invoke Indra daily by not even knowing. Indra is the Sun. In Durga Puja Indra is invoked during Samkalpa or the pact of the worshipper to complete the puja. In the Shanti mantra Indra is invoked:

? ????? ???????? ??????? ????? ? Om Bhadram Karnebhi? Srinuyaam Devah (Om, May we hear what is Auspicious with our ears,Oh Gods) ????? ????????????????????? Bhadram Pashyem Akshabhir Yajatrah May we see what is Auspicious With our eyes, Oh holy ones worthy of Worship ???????????????????????????????? Sthirair Angais Tushtuvagamsas Tanoobhih May we live a life of satisfaction with strong organs and Healthy body ?????? ??????? ?????? Vyashema Devahitam Yadaayooh May we Praise the Lord during the life span given to us by the Gods

??????? ? ??????? ??????????? Swasti Na Indro Vriddhashravah May God Indra of Great fame bless us ??????? ?? ???? ?????????? Swasti Na Poosha Vishwa-Vedaah May the Omniscient Poosha bless us ??????? ???????????? ??????????? Swasti Nastaaksharyo Arishtanemih May the Protector Garuda bless us ??????? ?? ????????????????? Swasti No Brihaspatir-dadhaatu May Lord Brihaspati protect us ? ??????? ??????? ??????? Om, Shaanti Shaanti Shaanti Om, Peace, Peace, Peace

Therefore Lord Indra is not a demigod. He is Brahman manifestation. He is of the same level as Lord Narayana, Rudra, Devi. He has been maligned, tarnished, and done so much of damage. I mean all those who malign Indra commits such grave damage to their own spiritual quest. When someone says Vishnu is greater than Indra or Shiva is greater than Indra, they don't understand that Vishnu is Indra, Shiva is Indra. Vishnu is Shiva, Shiva is Vishnu. There is no duality in them they all are One. Therefore may the truth shine forth. May people stop taking these serials as the source of truth and the character certificate of Lord Indra and of all Devas and Devis. Vajrahaastaya Vidhmahe Sahasrakshaaya Dhimahi Tanno Indro Prachodayat?

Everything in history and puranas are making of soul. Those who recognize and surrender to this beginningless essence (time is not criteria) become Devas, and those who arrogate are Asuras. May God (a phenomenon) give us wisdom to recognize this illumination within and surrender to become neither Devas nor Asuras but children in the womb of HIS illumination, untouched, so near yet so far. Om Shanti Om ??

great but Suryadev definitely has prominent place among 9 planets- Suryadev is the only God whom we can see with our eyes everyday.
