Why Indian MSMEs need to move to the Cloud Faster

New Delhi: The pandemic has accelerated the pace of digital transformation to the point that more and more Indian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are looking to move to the cloud, and the country needs to find new ways to help them do so. Hurry up, said Kulmeet Bawa, President, and CEO of SAP Indian Subcontinent, here on Saturday. Employing more than Rs 11 crore, MSMEs contribute around 30% of the country's GDP, and more than half of these MSMEs, which run the old infrastructure, serve the country's rural areas.

“Medium-sized Indian companies (MMEs) are asking us for an end-to-end cloud and digital strategy. The questions they are asking us today are very different from what they were before. Today, the conversation they are having with us is how to do it faster and in the path integration,” Bawa told IANS. In an informal interview. Bawa said enterprise software major SAP India is studying how it can increase its digital adoption by 10 times. "There is a huge demand for digital growth and the impact is very important for our country. We have to find ways to do it faster," he added. A recent IDC report indicated that 74% of medium-sized Indian companies are likely to move their applications to the cloud by 2022.

Bawa sees other areas of growth in start-ups, including those that are changing the way goods reach consumers faster and more efficiently, as part of last-mile communication goals. “The strength of SAP is twofold. First, we serve 26 industry verticals and the second strength is that we provide end-to-end solutions across customer experience, HR transformation, bosses, and people acquisition through our ERP offerings and so forth.”

Indian startups are also lining up for SAP solutions in the digital age. Adopting a digital mindset is a priority, said Bawa, who leads projects in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
