WHY India needs to understand the 'GOLDEN CIRCLE' & urgently implement 'I4.0 Thinking'

In his hugely popular & thought provoking book 'Start with WHY', Simon Sinek explains that every transformation starts with the question 'WHY should this be done'. This is followed by 'HOW can this be done'. This is then followed by the more specific questions about the means to be adopted, i.e. 'WHAT is required to achieve this goal'. This is called the 'Golden Circle'

?WHY INDIA NEEDS TRANSFORMATION

?India should not 'miss the Bus' in terms of becoming a prosperous country before it loses its demographic advantage and becomes an ageing country.

?India has a poor work culture where subjective biases & 'noisy' judgements reduce efficiency of public services, and competitiveness of private enterprises. Tacking Dengue, Ensuring speedy Covid Vaccination & Manufacturing world class products are all hampered by existing 'Way of Working'.

HOW TRANSFORMATION CAN BE DONE

Rule based Data Analysis followed by Autonomous Actions with fool-proof Accountability WITH MINIMUM HUMAN DISCRETION is the only way India can be transformed.?

WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD OF DOING THE ABOVE

The methodology which is best suited for transforming India is 'INDUSTRY 4.0 THINKING'. Although Industry 4.0 is primarily used in manufacturing, 'Industry 4.0 Thinking' can be used to solve any problem.

At the core of Industry 4.0 (the Fourth Industrial Revolution) is ONE basic idea which can be called Data Driven Decisions or DDD. Data flows in TWO streams, one taking data from machines for analysis and action, and the other bringing work instructions or initiating remote repairs.

Effective Industry 4.0 solutions require certain thought processes & ways of working that can be termed as ' Industry 4.0 or I4.0 Thinking' which comprises of 4 guidelines which are described below:

?#1: Data?should be collected?WITHOUT human?intervention to?:

??????Ensure data purity

?????Collect it at required intervals 24 hours/day and 7 days a week without delays or disruptions.

# 2:?Where human intervention IS necessary for data collection,?system based checks should be put in place to?prevent mistakes?or?ensure strict compliance?with the guidelines.

?# 3: 'RULES OF THE GAME'?with?'ACTION THRESHOLDS':

  • ?The action to be taken on 'Crossing of each Threshold' should be clearly defined.

# 4: ACTIONS MUST BE AUTONOMOUS & WITH FOOLPROOF ACCOUNTABILITY

This means that no human is involved, and system issues instructions DIRECTLY to machine or to Designated Personnel. Humans cannot interfere or change the course of action decided by the system as per the ' Rules of the Game'. Designated Persons are held responsible for their actions by a fool-proof digital accountability system.
