Why is in-house training increasing in demand

We’ve seen a significant increase in demand from our clients for trainers to deliver “in-house training” and workshops in the past 12 months.
We asked our clients why they had run more in-house training workshops and their responses are below, with some of our own thoughts.
Develop team and department capability
To avoid having one person as the font of knowledge, companies are looking at developing teams capability.
We are adopting ITIL as our IT Service Management methodology. We need to ensure the team has a common understanding of how we use it.
Bespoke content is better than generic
Its much better when our employees are able to discuss our internal workings, and use actual work examples within the sessions. This has been really useful when we ran the session for our salespeople to understand the nuances of our financial management.
Using the budgets better
The cost of sending an individual on a public course is relatively high compared to running in-house sessions. By bringing a trainer to deliver workshops internally the cost per person reduces significantly.
We were sending individuals onto management programmes costing £1000 for 2 days. When Optimus helped us to replicate the workshop and run it in-house ( using one of their approved trainers) the cost per head went down to £200 per person.
eLearning isn’t working
Giving people eLearning and non-workshop content as a standalone solution isn’t working. Its too easy for people to put off the eLearning, prioritising business activities ahead of time spent on learning. And, people miss the social interaction and discussion opportunity that workshops bring.
Our employees said they felt they weren’t able to step away from work when trying to engage with our e-learning. Providing a dedicated learning space helped but they said they missed the group workshops. They missed meeting other people in the business they wouldn’t normally meet or have access to. We re-introduced workshops to achieve this and encourage greater cross-company working.

5 年I love creating and delivering in-house training. The learners and I are literally surrounded by the opportunities, challenges and values-culture that they'll be applying their learning to, so together we make their learning something completely real-world that they can start putting into practice that same day.

5 年E-learning doesn’t work...not a huge surprise given how flooded people are with content. As for bespoke vs generic...that is a nod to the laziness of external providers. The bigger question though is this: Is training the answer? My brother did a speed awareness course and the got a further 6 points. Is it because he needed more training? Nope. But because he didn’t decide to move beyond a logical connection and change his behaviour. The same reason training often doesn’t land well and that transformation projects don’t yield the benefits that were promised

5 年I much prefer delivering training in-house compared to open courses. The relationships are often so much more genuine, participants more committed to their investment and the context of being in the setting lends itself to really discovering and supporting what's going on in the business.

5 年I love working in-house, the training translates back into the workplace so much more easily when the delegates have been able to apply models and theories to directly relevant situations. And I love it when real life problems are solved or part solved during a learning programme!?
