Why it is important to have a morning routine... Especially at a time like now!

I want to start by sending you all happy and positive vibes in what is a very interesting and unsettling time for us all.
In a time where the majority of us are making plans to (if not, already) work remotely to best implement this concept of social distancing that we are all being encouraged to do, it is now more than ever that we should remain connected. So, what does this mean for team dynamics and productivity levels of staff members?
It is safe to say that there has been a real shift over the past week and business as usual is so not realistic right now, but all we can do is remain positive and try our best to keep things moving forward.
Creating powerful online connections for workers is vital in ensuring we all remain positive and keep things as “normal” as best we can. And I’m not just talking about Skype calls to co-workers, I am talking about videos and phone calls to friends and family as well, who might also be working from home.
The building and construction industry have always been a great community and it is in these times that we can and should come together to show our unity, resolve and show our generosity to get through and be stronger than before.
The past couple of mornings I have woken up feeling anxious about what the day ahead might bring… And I’m sure I’m not the only one! And right now, I feel like the thing that has kept me on track with getting on with the day and whatever it throws at me, is in fact, my morning routine. I spoke recently about how I start my day every day and I wanted to come back to this as a reminder for how I work best and how important this routine is for me. And for those of you who are working from home currently, this is probably just as relevant for you in order to stay mentally and physically strong in the midst of the uncertainty at this time.
I know that a lot of people’s schedules are crazy right now. We are working from home, kids are home from school, business is not as usual and there is a whole lot of fear surrounding the streets. So, we are all a bit all over the place with our routines and schedules at the moment…
Something I have realised is that when / if I am not starting my day with my regular routine, I am just simply not myself. And that not only impacts me, but also those around me begin to notice as well. But now more than ever, this is super important for our own self-care. Self-care is so important, and this is our time to step up and take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others.
By next week, it is more than likely that we will all be working from home if you’re not already there, so let’s stick to those morning routines and normalise things as much as possible in a time that is so not normal.
These can be scary times, but we are so resilient. I’m encouraged by all of the good I see in the world, and how many people are working to help others.
So, let’s keep on moving. Let’s keep getting up and taking that time for ourselves each day to better help where we are able.
Stay healthy and happy!
