Why I'm leaving LinkedIn newsletters

Why I'm leaving LinkedIn newsletters

There's a lot of it about

Literally.

A lot of it.

And by "it" I mean noise.

Ironically for someone who loves to listen to music at volume 11, I can't stand noise. I'm actually quite sensitive to outbursts, shouting, hubbub and brouhaha.

Too many channels on at the same time - every one of them competing for my attention.

It makes me feel like an angry, salted slug.

When LinkedIn launched its newsletter service, I thought it was cool and a nice way to keep in touch with those in my community.

But then so did everyone else.

Every.Bloody.Day. a new newsletter to subscribe to until I could literally do nothing all day except read newsletters.

And if I'm the canary in the coal mine, then there's probably a lot of others feeling the same.

Information overload.

No-one's probably going to read this far. If they do, they will probably be hoping it gets to the point about now.

or now

I have loved sharing the wisdom accumulated over the hundreds of hours of creative agency new business podcasts but if I'm honest, no-one is really reading the newsletters.

It's not because they're being rude, it's because they haven't got the time and we're all trying to do the same thing.

The numbers I'm chasing are bullshit, false flags, a sugar rush.

And we're all behaving like starving, thirsty refugees when the Red Cross truck turns up.

It's every man and woman for themselves and we're all operating at volume 11.

So I'm taking a different route.

I'm going to find another outlet for the podcast content. One where my podcast guests actually benefit from the exposure and I can move the needle.

I'm quitting LinkedIn newsletters.

Like I said.

There's a lot of it about.

Thank you for reading this far. It's been fun, but it can't be fun forever.

Time for a new chapter.

Stay sane.

Information overload! Too many people trying to grab ones attention. Shame to see you quit. No doubt we will stay in touch as we go back such a long way! Take care and let's catch up soon ??

I get enough newsletters via email to read that I can't keep up with. I have to admit I contribute to this via my own platform. But I don't like the format of LinkedIn newsletters. Especially the lack of portability of your audience. It's just plain yuck

You're right Keith. I receive an overwhelming number of newsletter invites - and while they're probably all very good there's no way to consume so much content!
