Why I’m Going Big in a Time of Contraction
Amy McKeown
Award-winning, Multi-National Workplace Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategist and Consultant. Mentor. International Keynote Speaker. Thought Leader and Advocate for Women's Health.
Over Christmas, I did something different. For the first time, I stayed in London with my kids—no family rounds, no endless socialising. We hibernated. Movies, skating, yoga, long walks. Quiet and seasonal. And for the first time ever, I’m starting the year feeling… organised. Calm.
But not rested.
My Oura ring (a story for another day) tells me my resilience is?Adequate. The lowest it’s ever been. It doesn’t make sense—after all, I rested, right? But truthfully, sleepless nights over?‘Do Workplace Health Right’ Live 2025?have been keeping me up.
Let me explain.
Is This the Right Time?
Everyone I talk to says the same thing: the market is a mess. Money is tight, businesses are cutting costs, and uncertainty is everywhere. In the US, the Trump administration is shaking things up. In the UK, we’re grappling with the fallout of the recent budget. It’s not exactly a confidence-inspiring time for big decisions.
And it’s showing: swathes of sign-ups haven’t rolled in yet.
When money feels scarce, it’s human nature to contract. To shrink. But here’s what my business mentor (thank you, Danusia Malina-Derben ) reminded me: honesty is the best policy. Letting people in—being transparent about the behind-the-scenes—isn’t just an option; it’s a feature of what I’ve built.
Honesty Is My Policy
Most people selling courses or programs present a shiny veneer. They show off their success, gloss over the hard parts, and make it look effortless. But that’s not the reality, is it?
‘Do Workplace Health Right’ Live?is about authenticity, openness, and real connection. So, I’m sharing this honestly: I’ve had doubts. I’ve wondered if I should postpone until the markets recover or when people feel less afraid to invest. I’ve asked myself if I should wait for a “better time.”
But here’s the truth: there’s never a perfect time. And waiting? That’s contraction. Shrinking down. Playing it safe.
Why I’m Standing Strong
I built?‘Do Workplace Health Right’ Live?to be BIG. Expansive. A program filled with bold content, world-class guest experts, and an international community ready to take workplace health to the next level.
Thing is: workplace health is?still?growing. In the last two weeks alone, I’ve seen two Wellbeing Lead roles advertised in the UK—mid-level, well-paid positions. The opportunities are there. And the people who invest in themselves and their careers during tough times? They’re the ones who thrive when the tide turns.
This is the moment to stay expansive, to stay bold, and to hold that space for growth—even when it feels difficult.
What You Get
? Unparalleled content on workplace health that opens doors to opportunities (yes, even in this market).
? A vibrant, global community of people who get it.
