Why I'm Going All-In on Substack in 2025 (After Moving 3,700 LinkedIn Followers)

As I sit here almost ringing in 2025, I'm reflecting on what might be the best business decision I made in 2024: relaunching my Substack and successfully migrating 3,700 of my LinkedIn followers to become paid subscribers.

What started as an "experiment" has turned into my primary business model for 2025, and I want to share why.


The Journey: From LinkedIn to Substack

Back in early 2024, like many of you, I was posting regularly on LinkedIn. The engagement was good, but something was missing. I wasn't building a real asset. Each post would shine briefly, then disappear into the algorithm void.

That's when I decided to relaunch my Substack newsletter. But here's what made it different this time:


The Migration Strategy That Actually Worked

Instead of just dropping a link and hoping people would subscribe, I treated my LinkedIn audience like the valuable community they are. Here's what I did:

1. The Content Upgrade Preview

  • Started writing longer, more detailed LinkedIn posts
  • Began sharing the first half of case studies on LinkedIn, with the full versions promised in the newsletter
  • Created a 2-week series of daily insights, each building on the last

2. The Soft Launch

  • Invited my most engaged commenters to be founding members
  • Shared their early wins and feedback
  • Created natural FOMO without being pushy

3. The Full Migration

  • Offered a special founding member rate that would never be available again
  • Provided a clear roadmap of upcoming content
  • Made it about the community, not just the content


The Results That Changed Everything

What happened next shocked me:

  • Week 1: 150 new subscribers
  • Week 2: 350 new subscribers total
  • Week 3: 600 total new subscribers...and it just kept growing

But here's the real kicker – the retention rate after 90 days is 91%. In the world of email lists and newsletters, that's practically unheard of.


Why I'm All-In for 2025

1. Direct Connection

Unlike social media, my Substack gives me a direct line to my audience. No algorithm changes, no platform risks.

2. Real Revenue

The math is simple but powerful: With paid subscribers at $10/month, this has become a real business, not just a content marketing channel.

3. Compound Effect

Every article I write becomes part of a growing library that continuously attracts new subscribers. It's the opposite of the social media treadmill.

4. True Independence

I own the relationship with my audience. No platform can take that away.


The 2025 Game Plan

Here's why I'm doubling down next year:

  • Launch a premium tier for deep-dive case studies
  • Create micro-cohorts for subscriber collaboration
  • Build a community that feeds itself with success stories
  • Focus on scaling what's already working


Lessons Learned

The biggest realization? The riches are in the niches. My newsletter succeeds not because it tries to appeal to everyone, but because it solves specific problems for a specific audience.


For those considering this path in 2025:

1. Start with value over-delivery

2. Build anticipation before launching

3. Make early subscribers feel special

4. Focus on retention over acquisition

5. Create content that compounds in value


The Hard Truth

This isn't a "get rich quick" play. It took me three months of consistent effort before seeing real traction. But unlike other business models I've tried, this one compounds. Each new subscriber makes the next one easier to get.
