Why I’m not doing Black Friday...and I don’t believe you should either

Are your inbox and social media full of Black Friday offers? Mine too! You either love it or hate it. Personally, I’m not a big fan.
I admit I've bought the odd personal item in a Black Friday sale. But I don’t apply it in my business because I provide consulting services - based on the value I provide.
Occasionally I make special offers to my community and existing clients. I do this to make sure I’m always offering the best possible value, and to enable people to start working with me earlier than they may otherwise be able to. In the interests of full disclosure, I currently have a special offer for my recent online course alumni that runs out on Friday!
I may feel differently if I provided lots of online products but I don’t think so. Whether people are working with me 1:1, in a group or online, I want them to be committed to taking action and fully satisfied with the outcomes they get. I believe this happens when my clients have time to get to know me and to make a considered and rational choice about investing in my services.
What's the business equivalent of shoes you've never worn?
I tend not to buy Black Friday offers for my business either. I have more than one pair of ‘sale’ shoes in my wardrobe that I’ve never worn. I don’t want to get tempted by the business equivalent – software I never use or on online course I never open. If I really want something and can see the return on my investment, I should be prepared to pay full price for it.
So, do I think you should offer your consulting services for less on Black Friday? Absolutely not!
Should you buy something for your business on a Black Friday offer? In my opinion, only if you’ve done your research and due diligence. If it’s something you knew you wanted and you already know and trust the provider, go for it. Otherwise you might be better keeping your credit card in your wallet or risk ending up with a serious case of buyer’s remorse.
Where do you stand on Black Friday? Love it or not a fan? I’d love to know!

5 年I'm vehemently against it Lucy. It encourages people to spend money they may not have, when Christmas already puts many under pressure financially. Consumerism at its worst.

5 年Personally, I think it brings out the worst in humanity, so that's the main reason I chose to avoid it. But also - the shoe reason!!
