Why I Wrote on Medium for 100 Days
You guys…I did it! I accomplished my goal of writing a short post every single day for 100 days. Whew. Ok, on to the why.
- To see if I could do it
- To write, because I always say that I hate to
- To be more visible professionally
- To be accountable personally
- To make time in every busy day
- To be proactive and write a few posts at once
- To wait until the last minute and write a post
- To hang out on Medium
- To read more posts by other Medium folks
- To improve the SEO of Tina Cordes (RIP all the SEO I built up with Tina Glengary)
- To do research
- To share all the NYT articles that I read
- To post photos of the dogs
- To blend my professional and private selves
- To feel like I accomplished something
- To write for strangers
- To write for my friends and family
- To share my experience and experiences
- To ask questions
- To cross post to LinkedIn
- To ponder why some posts get read/shared and others don’t
- To ponder why LinkedIn is weird, but good, but still weird
- To try to keep each post to a 1 minute or less read
- To have a pile full of half started posts in the draft folder
- To play with formatting, but still fall back on lists
- To realize how much I love lists
- To write a list that includes loving lists
- To keep pace with Heather Champ’s 100 Days of Boring Beads
- To realize that I love writing short, choppy sentences
- To edit out 25% of the extra words in every post
- To feel like my writing is too short
- To get feedback saying short posts are good
- To connect with old friends (Hi Stephen Koch!)
- To have some loyal readers (Hi John Manoogian III!)
- To have my husband recommend almost all my posts (Hi evan cordes!)
- To be comfortable with my inconsistencies and lack of a specific topic to write about
- To try to write 100 reasons why, but stop at #37
Let’s see if I write tomorrow. ;)
