Why I Watch 3+ Hours of Netflix a Day–And It's Not a Waste of Time

Common time management advice is that watching Netflix is a waste of time. If you want to be productive, if you're going to be successful, so we're told, don't watch Netflix.

Yet each day, I watch three or more hours of Netflix, usually a movie and a show. Am I wasting time? I don't think so. In fact, I'm using my time well.

I learned early on in my personal development journey that TV was a waste of time. So I was astonished that master copywriter Dan Kennedy, famed for his insane productivity, watches a LOT of television.

Why? For the same reasons I do. We're both copywriters and marketers. In marketing, your job is to get inside the heads of your prospects and customers and join the conversation that's already going on in their head.

In other words, anyone in marketing or in business can benefit from watching Netflix – and a lot of it.

You get to see the world through your ideal customer's eyes, as well as find pop culture references you can sprinkle in your copy so customers feel that you understand them.

My go-to guides for what to watch are the IMDb Top 250 Best Movies list and the IMDb Top-Rated TV Shows list. Their popularity teaches you how to reach the masses.

In your business, you'll find it more helpful to learn what shows your ideal customer watches. To understand your customers and think as they think, watch the movies and shows they watch.

Maybe Netflix would be a waste of time for you. But if you're in marketing or business, use Netflix to grow your business.s
