Why I wanted to combat the old-fashioned law stereotype?

Why I wanted to combat the old-fashioned law stereotype?

When thinking of an old-fashioned law firm, it’s hard not to consider oak panelled offices filled with men wearing tailored suits and bowler hats. The picture that I paint isn’t one that I can relate or subscribe to, it feels unaccountable and lacking diversity.

I have always felt that society is ready for a more modern approach to law; clients want a professional, but at the same time they want to relate to their lawyer. New generations entering our profession are starting to aspire to a broader range of ideals.

‘Modern’ relies on tech as a facilitator, but it is also so much more. Flexibility (particularly where and when they work) is important to lawyers and cited as a prerequisite by candidates, although many employers still feel reluctant bystanders to these changes. My view is that embracing flexibility unlocks a world of talent available, but it needs to be done within an evolved framework that facilitates that flexibility, capitalises on the savings that can flow and assures the firm of continued productivity.

Taylor Rose 's consultant programme is a fantastic example of fully embracing flexibility within an environment that redistribute the savings achieved fairly between the consultant and host firm.

The Consultants Programme allows layers to enjoy the freedom of self-employment whether they join as an individual or have a team. They can define their earning potential, setting their own hours and create the ideal work-life balance for them. But of course, this is never an easy decision, but the statistics provide the truth that the consultant programme and modern way of working is on the rise. The Lawyer UK 200 rankings currently has four consultant law firms in the top 100 showing that all the benefits including: flexibility, IT support, Accounts, Marketing Advice, training, a dedicated concierge team and much more.

Not only have we broken the traditional law firm model but within the firm, we have also implemented the ethos of ‘smart modern law’. Smart modern law allows us to operate a smart business with smart people, being modern because we innovate and invest in our business and people to ensure that we provide a state-of-the-art service to our clients and law because that’s what we do.

Each word is equally important and allows us not only to challenge large firms, but also establishes practices in the legal sector through innovation and entrepreneurship. Not only does smart modern law emphasis the purpose of Taylor Rose MW but it also comes into the firms’ clear vision which includes simplifying, humanising, and challenging law.

Technology has also helped breaking the traditional law firm, as both the legal sector and technology is forever changing. By investing in technology and including it within our strategy – not only are we supporting our personnel but also our clients by providing the people who need the technology the most and provide them with the best software to provide our clients with an outstanding service.

The traditional law firm model was broken, with the success of our consultant’s programme followed on by the culture and values that we have implemented within the firm. To discuss just myself breaking the old-fashioned law stereotype is never just me, there’s the people, departments, and systems.

Not only has combatting the old-fashioned law stereotype been successful for Taylor Rose MW but it’s been something that has helped both our culture and our firm become the fastest growing law firm in the UK (The Times FT1000 Report 2023), number one UK lawyer consultancy programme and the second largest conveyancer in the UK.

By living under the ethos of ‘smart modern law’ and being a law firm that puts its client at the forefront of everything we do – the culture, values and breaking the traditions is whole heartly what Taylor Rose MW stands for.?
