Why I took the PMP?

The Project Management Professional is the world's golden standard for professionals who aim at managing all the aspects of a project from it's conception to realization and closure. It requires both practical experience and theoretical expertise in the domain of project initiation, planning, execution, Monitoring and Control and project closure. It is relevant to note that it is not restricted to projects in a particular industry, a PMP certified manager can serve where needed with professionalism and expertise. The journey to this achievement isn't the smoothest, it requires financial sacrifices, dedication, perseverance and consistency all along. You are to submit a formal application to the Project Management Institute (PMI) that will review your application and determine if you are fit to take the exam. Your application should prove that you are knowledgeable in the domain of project management that you gained from past experiences, you also must have completed a certain number of PDU's from accredited universities or courses to be eligible to take the exam. As a matter of fact there are many PDU certified courses on linkedin Learning ,Udemy, coursera and other online learning platforms which you might be interested in taking a look at. The exam takes 4 hours to complete during which you must answer 200 questions. At least 61% of these questions must be correct for you to get the target score thus adequate preparation is the key. I managed projects before with some degree of success but now I feel that if I had my newly acquired knowledge at the time, I would had done a better job. I recommend to any individual seeking knowledge and worldwide expertise in the domain of project management to consider taking the PMP. This achievement doesn't just gives you the hard skills but encourages you to develop the soft skills of communication and empathy that all project mangers need to have to drive growth in their organizations. Over the years, PMP managers have triggered the growth of Multi-billion dollar companies like Amazon, Google, Facebook , Microsoft and more. My intimate conviction is that with the right dose of agility in the life cycle of any project, we can deliver faster and within budget constraints. My background as Computer Engineer and Agile expert has been very useful in this journey, I was exposed to many of the practical concepts PMP tests in my job and in my academic work. I take this opportunity to thank my lecturers at the University of Buea and Maharishi International University who exposed me to the science of managing projects with agility and My employers who provided the platform for me to demonstrate my knowledge in this domain . A special thank to all my mentors for their leadership and guidance throughout the process. Grateful to my family and friends for their support and encouragements. A complete fusion between the technical know-how and the project management skills is my definition of the PMP. What's yours? when do you plan to embark in the PMP certifying journey? Today is always a great answer. Best of luck.
