Why I Support Passion Projects

I caught up with one of our talented directors; Gideon Beresford and asked him why supporting passion projects is important to young film directors?

“There are times when a concept or idea pops into your head that a brand or funding body daren't back, but you want to make it anyway. Open Wide is one of those...

Fortunately, in the film industry I know a load of people who love to get involved in weird ideas which means you’re still able make the film and make it well. It just requires cashing in a few favours and late nights, instead of bundles of cash.

Fortunately, the film industry can be very generous when they hear about a project people are passionate about. With support from my colleagues @ Pink Banana Studios lending us some ARRI cameras and helping towards festival entries, Panavision who supplied all our lighting gear and Electric Theatre Collective who graded our film. This meant we ended up creating an un-fundble film without having to cut any corners.

“Open Wide” is a film that should never have been - a poorly thought out half-joke. Yet it managed to sneak it’s way into Palm Springs ShortFest ‘18 attracting funding interest for our next film and do irreparable damage to the reputations of dentists everywhere!”

WATCH WITH CAUTION - Not another corporate film!
