Why I stopped writing regular newsletters.

Why I stopped writing regular newsletters.

I used to send out regular newsletters - with a bit of "value" and a bit of "sales" - and they used to get me a few interested people. But it was always a chore, and it took up valuable time, and I've finally recognised that the habit of "regular newslettering" hasn't just slipped - it's totally not happening.

Like many people I speak to - faced with the deluge of so many newsletters out there, all doing the same thing - I've become a vicious "unsubscriber" and ruthless reader. And I no longer write my own regular newsletter - because I've acknowledged a key fact: - I just don't have the time for the quality that's required.

And amongst all the newsletters I have subscribed to over the years, one has stayed with me. It's here - https://fs.blog/brain-food/july-14-2024/ - and it's just so full of delightful ideas, it's not packed with salesy stuff* - just useful insights and concepts that make my heart sing.

I have to say it is this quote below, which came from the above newsletter, that made me choose to write this post.

QUOTE: “You deserve to be loved and chosen — not almost loved, or almost chosen. ... Have the courage to let go of the people who leave your heart confused. Let go of the people who make you feel like you are compromising all that you desire, and all that you hope for, and all of the goodness and the beauty that you know exists in this world, for a skinny version of love. ... Let go of the fears you have that keep you holding on to something that hurts, something that is so heavy, something that has only left you feeling misunderstood, or unworthy, or at war with yourself. Let go of waiting for the people you have always treated kindly, to treat you kindly. Let go of waiting for the people you have always treated with respect, to treat you with respect. Let go of waiting for the people you have always chosen, to finally choose you. Let go of waiting. Let go of holding your breath, just hoping that things change.”

— Bianca Sparacino, A Gentle Reminder

It was this very quote that made me say: "Yes. This is why I have stopped writing regular newsletters that nobody reads. Because I no longer tolerate stuff that doesn't make my heart sing, and I no longer wish to send that out to others."

So - with a glad heart, I can acknowledge that I no longer have to do regular newsletters as a ritual or a habit - and I can let myself off the hook with this. It's ok to do whatever I need to do - so long as it's quality. So long as I'm not expecting others to "tolerate" me. So long as whatever is happening is bringing value to other people.

And I really think that this quote brings value, soul and perspective.

Which newsletters do you: Read, Save, Send, Delete?

*OK, there's a bit of salesy stuff - but the value and quote are by far the best bit!

Well said Sue! I, too, am ploughing through my emails, unsubscribing as much as possible. Great letting go quote!
