Why I stopped using Before & After pictures.

I help those that feel stuck in the endless cycle of yo-yo dieting regain control through Intuitive Eating so that they can feel food and body confident again.
Around a year ago I decided to stop sharing B&A pictures. I never really liked doing it anyway, it always gave me the ick-factor.?
So… I decided to not bother…
I always felt the relationship that myself and a client had built was very intimate and private one and such things was an invasion of that.
I felt it was a little shameful and embarrassing having someone take pictures of themselves in their bra and knickers or under-crackers (as my son would say) and for it to be thrown around in social media.
For the type of client that I work with, the whole ‘before & after’ thing is a huge part of why they’re in this situation in the first place.
The anxiety around weigh ins, measurements and pictures creates a lot stress and leads to emotional turmoil.
I really didn’t want to be another part of this.
I found for those struggling with irregular and disordered eating patterns, the removal of things like this is often a huge relief.
Here’s the thing…
WEIGHT LOSS (MOST OFTEN) HAPPENS… If they have weight to be lost in the first place. BUT… it’s not our focus.
We are here to fix emotional & binge eating and yo-yo dieting...
Anything that resembles a diet only conjures negative emotions which influence behaviours...
I want to remove external influences from the process that they are going though…?
This also includes lots of numbers that they make have learned to associate to signs of failure or success.
This is another reason I don’t have my client track calories or macros and steer them away from scale use or measurements.
Things like this can really disrupt what it is we are doing...
?? Fixing their relationship with food.
?? Stop Emotional & Binge Eating.
?? To never dieting again.
?? To have interoceptive awareness
To only eat a certain way for a certain thing isn’t a great idea… it leads to you eventually stopping because, let’s be honest, you’re only really doing it for the purpose of weight loss.

Principle number 1 of intuitive eating is to deny the diet mentality…
That includes the typical things that go along with that.?
I’m not about the whole ‘suck it up’ mentality when it comes to food and exercise.
It’s not about discipline or willpower. I believe the ‘discipline’ word has been used to disguise what is actually disordered.
My ladies are just trying to be healthy and NOT have every decision be dictated by a lingering diet mindset.
We must rebuild trust and intuition.
We look inwards at what you both need and want.
Clients do still have the options to take initial measurements and even photos if they please but I’m very quick to get them to NOT do them again… in actual fact, it’s usually the clients that comes to this decision themselves. WHICH IS AMAZING.
My job as a coach is helping clients come to powerful realisations.?
Their direct experience is far more powerful than any information I can give or words that I can say.
The Build with Bickle consultancy that aims to resolve peoples dieting issues needs to be completely different to what is mainstream and popular.
If you want different… you must be different and develop a different mindset around food and other factors that influence your emotional state.

My consultancy is a very private affair. The ladies that come to me already feel deeply embarrassed and ashamed because they feel so out of control. My job is to help them.. not be another variation of the very thing that contributed to their struggles.
