Why I Started Goodr!
Hunger is Not A Scarcity Issue, It's a Logistics Issue!

Why I Started Goodr!

I get this question all of the time. People want to know what the reasoning is behind Goodr. Why did I start it? How did I get the idea?

Well, to put it simply, hunger hit me in the face. And what I mean by that, is that it became something I couldn’t ignore. I had always worked in the social good space and had a natural draw to hunger and homelessness since the very beginning of my service journey. Initially, I was handling celebrity donations and helping people in that sector give back. I was also hosting Sunday Souls which I would spend hours couponing, grocery shopping and ultimately cooking in my kitchen for hundreds of people who were food insecure. From there I started to create a restaurant-like environment to further serve people with dignity, creating menus, renting tables, chairs and linens - I was committed to this fight.

I was doing what I could and telling myself that it was enough. At least,  until a really good friend of mine confided in me that she was dealing with food insecurity. Now, this was someone who I had gone to college with. She was educated, young, able-bodied, pretty much the exact opposite of what we think of when we think of people who are food insecure. And then it hit me. If someone in my circle was dealing with this issue, then there were probably people in everyone’s circles that were suffering. And the thing is, it was needless suffering.

Hunger isn’t scarcity  issue. It’s a logistical issue. There is enough food to go around. The problem is that many restaurants and corporations don’t know what to do with all of their surplus food at the end of the day and they haven’t figured out a true surplus food supply chain process.

That’s where the idea for Goodr was born. I wanted to take relieving food insecurity to the next level by using blockchain technology to give those companies a way to put that surplus food to good use, while helping the environment and getting tax breaks. It would be a win for everyone.

In 2017, Goodr officially launched. Since then, we have rescued over 900,000 pounds of food and which results in over 800k meals served and counting. We have come along way, but we certainly aren’t anywhere near finished.

Goodr is more than just an app or a company, it’s a journey. And I want all of you to be able to follow us on it. Stay tuned for what's next!
