THIS IS WHY I QUIT NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS!

Sigh... new year, old struggles. Same old story…

January is not yet over and it seems like for some of us (or at least me) we are back to the old habits and not achieving much. We entered the year with so much vigor and excitement, only for the stress of work and other things to slow us and weigh us down and delay the very things we wanted to work on. This can be almost discouraging if you are not careful. But that is why I quit giving myself New Year’s resolutions.

I rather resolved to work with smaller realistic & achievable targets. That way I don't get overwhelmed by the big picture and it also gives me the mental boost when I celebrate those little victories.

As I speak to you, I have written (but not yet published) 4 articles, compared to zero last year by this time and I will have another 2 complete before we enter February. Little victories. They count the most.

Are you already disappointed in yourself for breaking those annual goals you set with so much fire in you? Don't be too hard on yourself. You see, the problem with fire is that without sufficient fuel it will always die down. You need the right fuel(s) to keep you seated and on the goal you set. Now I am not going to go all motivational speech on you and say find your passion. We’ve heard it a million times enough to sound like a national anthem. Passion is required, but you need to do something in addition to that: disciplined planning.

Plan your goals right. Break them down into something doable within a week or even a month. Discipline yourself and tell yourself to make at least a tiny bit of effort each day. Then for every little progress, make sure you write it down and celebrate that progress. Trust me, every victory counts and a few months down the line you would be glad you did take that step. It will do you a whole lot of mental good when you get into those times you are worn out.

Your future legacy will thank the present you for the actions you put in place today.

So get to work but do it now. Get to writing that blog post – start with the titles (that’s what I did- I have written 85 titles without even considering the content. That alone is enough fuel to keep me writing). Hit the gym – personally make yourself accountable to that gym instructor, don’t be shy. Get that business plan written down so that your idea no longer remains a floating one! Heck, download a template if you have no idea how to! Chase that contract by writing that irresistible pitch. By all means, get moving! 2020 is not going to be a dull year for me and neither should it be for you. I want to celebrate my victories with you as you do yours. Your future legacy will thank the present you for the actions you put in place today.

So what are you still waiting for? You’re done reading this article. Nothing new to see here…*whispers* “That’s your cue!”

Thank you Jesse! Planning especially the night before each day. I need to go back to that
