Why I NEVER Make New Year Resolutions...
We are all trying to go from InshAllah to Alhumdulillah.
That's what we are trying to do right? From a plan to an achievement.
And a lot of - including me in the past - make plans on new years, and plan the year ahead. From weight loss to revenue/sales targets, many of us are still making new year resolutions. It's almost as if they work!
New year resolutions don't work because you look at them once a year.
I am practicing a daily reminder of my goals. And I learnt this from the best of the best. And the results are simply undeniable.
You need to look at your goals on a daily basis!
Listen, in the past, I have advocated that you should look at your goals and REMIND yourself why you are pursuing them, AT LEAST once a week.
I was wrong.
Once a week is just too long... I needed daily reminders. I put them on my phone. I incorporate them in my prayers.
And only then I stand a chance of working on them 3 months from now, 6 months from now.
The best bet? Write down your goals. Daily. Hand-write them. Sure, you can print them out and put in where you see them every time you sit down to work. But hand-write them everyday. From memory. That's your life mission, right? Why wouldn't you memorize them and remind yourself daily?
We humans are "designed" to forget. Even the root word for "Insaan" - the word for "human" in Arabic & Urdu - comes for "nisyaan", meaning forgetful or to forget.
So our main weapon is a "Reminder Ritual", a little "RR" to keep ourselves in check.
Do you have a goal that you plan to achieve in the coming days?
Which goal are you trying to achieve?
I wish you nothing but the best
God bless!
