Why I need less than 5 minutes to change your mind on Recruitment.

As an industry, I disdain Recruitment. Why? Because it's a bit shit.

I hate the reputation, the clichés, the "bro culture", the elitism, but mostly the fact that it's never changed. There's a reason why you see individuals dehumanise recruiters and frankly, it's because some deserve it.

My two main issues with Recruitment are... they don't care about outcomes nor do they have real a USP or a "product". They just work on a basis of Minimal Responsibility.

Minimal Responsibility is not caring if the placement sticks the landing after it passes the rebate period and ghosting if it doesn't work out. I've lost count of the times I've heard people say they've been "stung before by a recruitment agency" and "this is why they don't use recruiters anymore".

Recruitment Companies USPs are also a bugbear of mine, there are none. We've all heard that someone is an "expert in what they do" and boast their dubiously large amount of "candidates on their CRM". The list could go on and it's all bollocks.

My point is none of the above makes you want to work with a recruiter. There is no real tangible product or "call to action" and this includes people offering an "On-Site"/RPO or Retained search - it's just the same old shtick, repackaged, and renamed.

Fun fact... 64% of employees in their first year of a job will look to leave a new job - and that doesn't take into account those who aren't looking but are being bombarded with messages daily.
