Now before I begin, I'm not a Drill Sargent Major screaming "Get down and give me 100!"
What I would rather do is help you understand why not doing resistance training is doing your body a disservice as you age.
Ask any adult if they've been to training lately, and most likely, you will get a puzzled look in response.
After all, what's the point in spending time away from work or family obligations when you could be doing something else?
Adults often overlook the importance of continuous learning, but what they may not realise is that training is essential for professional and personal growth.
Here are four reasons why training is, in our book, mandatory for adults.
Age-Related Hormonal Changes
As we get older, our bodies undergo a number of changes in terms of hormone production.
These age-related hormonal changes inevitably occur in all people, perhaps most visibly in terms of declining muscle mass and increased body fat.
While these changes are a natural part of the ageing process, it is important to remember that they are not inevitable.
In fact, one of the best ways to counteract the effects of age-related hormonal changes is through staying active and training regularly.
This can take many forms, from regular exercise at the gym to more low-key movement like walking or yoga.
Whatever method you choose, staying active and giving your body a regular workout helps to keep hormones balanced and prevents them from shifting out of whack.
So if you want to stay healthy as you get older and fight the effects of hormonal change, make sure to maintain an active lifestyle that keeps your body and your hormones working at their best!
Energy Levels
The effects of ageing can be seen in many aspects of our lives, including a decline in our energy levels.
As we grow older, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the same level of vitality that we did in our youth.
This is why regular exercise is so important for adults, especially those who are approaching middle age or beyond.
By engaging in physical activity on a regular basis, people can help to stave off the natural decline in energy that typically comes with ageing.
Exercise provides numerous health benefits beyond just increased energy levels, including improved cardiovascular health and stronger muscles and bones.
Additionally, by promoting better sleep and improving mood and mental clarity, exercise can help adults feel more energetic both physically and mentally.
So if you are starting to feel tired or run down all the time, consider getting more physical activity into your routine to help increase your energy levels and ensure that you will age gracefully.
This is why I start my day with some form of basic movement. This could be 30 star jumps, 30 squats, 30 press-ups, 30 burpees etc. I do this to simply get oxygen moving around my body. I try most days to do this outside to start my day with sunlight unless it's dark.

Health
When it comes to improving our health, most of us focus on nutrition and diet.
While these factors are undoubtedly essential for good physical and mental health, there is another crucial component that often gets overlooked: exercise.
Regular physical activity can help to prevent numerous serious illnesses, from heart disease and diabetes to mental ones, like depression.
As we age, our bone density decreases. This is why you often hear about elderly people falling and breaking bones. When you do resistance training, this not only helps build muscle, it keeps the bones strong and healthy.
The thing is, lifestyle habits can tend to become set in adulthood, and while many people are somewhat active at work or during daily errands, few engage in significant amounts of physically demanding activities, which have obvious benefits.
As such, adults may need more encouragement to get moving and stay active if they hope to reap all the great health-promoting benefits that exercise has to offer.
Fortunately, there are many enjoyable ways for grownups to stay fit, including outdoor sports like hiking or biking, as well as indoor options like group fitness classes or workout apps like mine (shameless plug).

Whatever form of exercise you choose, just remember that the hard-won health benefits of movement will greatly exceed any time spent sweating!
Visual Appearance
When it comes to health, there are a number of benefits that come along with regular exercise.
Not only does regular physical activity help to improve cardiovascular health, strengthen bones and muscles, and boost energy levels, but it can also improve our physical appearance.
Indeed, exercise can have wide-ranging effects on the appearance of the muscles, skin, body shape, vascularity, and more.
So remember this - there is age, measured in years, and then you have the biological age.
Two people at 60 may look entirely different, so it's not just the years that matter, but how the years pass.
Final Thoughts
So, what’s the verdict? Are you in or are you out?
If you’re still on the fence, remember that not only is training mandatory for adults, but it can also be a whole lot of fun.
Who knows – you may even surprise yourself and enjoy it!
