Primarily, freelancers are professionals that work for themselves. So not only are they, by default, highly specialised professionals (with many of them devoting years to perfecting their craft/skillset), but they also take responsibility of perpetually up-skilling themselves, for the sake of their livelihood. Throughout the process of working with a varied clientele, they sharpen their specific skill set, and with each new project, challenge their own thought process. This gives THEM more exposure than an employee and gives ME access to their forte.
Another aspect of it that I have loved, is the ease of working with freelancers (well, most of them). They are agile and almost always manage to get shit done, geography agnostic. Knowing and having experienced that made work very seamless for me, especially during the COVID situation. Besides, I haven't met a freelancer who isn't beautifully connected within the industry and amongst other freelancers. So much so, that working with freelancers has always helped bring in a sense of community, so to speak. You'd be surprised at what a freelancer with a good network can do for your business at a fraction of the cost. I know for a fact that, if I hire a writer, it is very probable that he/she will be able to recommend me a credible graphic designer, who will likely be able to recommend me a kick-ass web developer. That was 3 jobs taken care of, in 1 find.
Freelancers are their own manager and boss at the same time, trust them to be self-reliant and driven. Which makes sense, because their growth heavily depends on word-of-mouth and repeat clients. While a staff member’s performance may have peaks and valleys, and SWOT analysis for performance evaluation, a freelancer knows that the contract is always subject to renewal!
Through my various businesses over the years, I have had the chance to work with freelancers not just within India, but also in Russia, Ukraine and Australia. It just hit me that a freelancer's geographical boundary is far thinner. Which may be one of the biggest contributors to the fact that working with a freelancer may open the door to growth, alongside gaining access to new ideas, a fresh thought process, a design lens, and a style of work that one may not necessarily find in India.
Concluding, I'd leave you, folks, with this thought from a business economic perspective - India today is a startup hub, and my personal belief system dictates that the onus of growth and success of this startup ecosystem is on us entrepreneurs, by being more cost-effective and outsourcing jobs. Or as millennials would put it, Freelancers >>>>>

4 年Hey Neha Right said.I choose to freelance after working for 9 years, for personal reasons. But never have I ever felt that my clients were concern about it. If you are a smart working professional, freelancing or full time jobs doesnt matter to you or your clients.

4 年Totally agree with your views about an emerging class of working professionals who have signed up to work fort themselves. However, unfortunately the word freelance also mistaken by so many as cheap labour. I think it's high time to coined the better terminology for the people those have expertise, agility and flexible pricing model.
