It has been a while since I talked about solo traveling and I am such a fan. So given that I am just about to go on a solo trip, I thought I will share this message with you here. It’s just so close to my heart.?
In the past, I shared more about my experience after the travel and all the things I experienced while travelling alone. So this time I am doing it beforehand and sharing with you how I am getting ready for this.
And you can take everything that I share with you today and use it on your next travel – if you are travelling alone or with others.?
Where am I solo traveling to this time?
So let me briefly share what I am about to do as my travel. You might be curious.?
I am leaving soon to drive to a mountain area in Austria and take a paragliding course. In 2 weeks I will fully learn how to paraglide and get my pilot license.
So nearly all days that I am there, I am going to be busy with learning how to paraglide by jumping off a mountain or in class learning the theory for the test that I have to complete as part of the licence.
I paraglided 3 years ago (of course with a pilot) and I thought it was the most amazing experience in my life so I knew I wanted to learn how to do it for myself. So this year I am making this dream happen.?
Why do I travel a minimum of once per year by myself?
For me, this time is self-development on speed. You have all this alone time away from the people in your life, away from the things you can take care of at home, away from work.?
You put yourself into a situation on purpose to be with yourself and your subconscious mind, your higher self, or the divine (all the same for me) understands this and actually help you in the process.
That can be working through something that is necessary for you to move forward. It can be that things come up for you to finally process them and let go of them. You get AHA moments and insights when you are with yourself and more in silence which you might not be able to “hear” when you are in the middle of your busy life.?
If you have anything in your life that you would like to change or improve, then I can just recommend traveling by yourself. Now, if you are not traveling by yourself soon, can you create some me space for yourself? Can you create pockets of time where you can be with yourself??
And the important part is when you are traveling by yourself or just creating some me time while traveling with others, is to not distract yourself with things “to do”.?

Yes, you can go for a walk but then don’t distract yourself by talking to someone else or listening to a podcast. Walk in silence. Yes, you can be around other people but then don’t fill your mind thinking about those other people that you see, move your awareness to yourself and inside of you.
Other Benefits of Solo Traveling
You get to do what you want. And you might not even know what you truly want because you never get to reflect on it when you are with others. So traveling solo means you can fully explore what you like doing and realize what you don’t like.
It gets you out of your comfort zone. It’s a great practice of stepping into the unknown, into the unfamiliar. And doing that lets you grow as a person. You will navigate everything yourself and figure it out yourself, you realize how great you are looking after yourself. You have the opportunity to try out solo experiences like taking yourself for a nice dinner, going to the cinema by yourself, or maybe even seeing a musical or play all on your own. You will love it!
Not that you have to, but if you like the idea it’s much easier getting to know new people when you are alone. I always love to see who the universe puts into my solo travel for me to meet. I have made amazing new friends going somewhere by myself.?
How am I preparing for my solo travel?
Well, the first point is maybe too obvious but it’s very necessary. It’s having a conversation about it with your family, your partner, or the people you usually travel with. So I communicate when I plan to travel by myself and that this is going to be my me time.?
I like to set an overall intention for each travel. For example, on previous alone trips, I had intentions of?
This time it’s about overcoming myself. I will do that each day when I’m about to start paragliding. I will be very aware and train my subconscious mind that I am comfortable overcoming my own fears by jumping off the mountain. It’s a great opportunity for this travel.?
Setting an intention for your solo trip
So have a think about what you would like to intend for your travel. It does not mean that you have to DO a lot. It can just be an intention to be happier, have more fun, not look at your phone so much, or maybe delete certain apps from your phone for the duration of the trip.
OK, I will leave it at that for today. I will vlog throughout my travel and will let you know how my experience was with my intention of overcoming myself every day. I can’t wait to share it with you.
