Why I Love My Job: Kindness

This April, Seasons focused on the theme of Kindness. We know that our caring and dedicated team members make a difference through meaningful connections and creating ‘wow moments’ that matter; and Seasons supports, encourages, and celebrates these efforts because they positively impact our residents, their families and other team members. We spoke to our homes, and they shared some good deeds that created a ripple effect of kindness.
Seasons Amherstburg
Whenever care team member Ciji is at work, so is our beloved house dog Willow. Our residents love having this cute chocolate labrador on “duty"; they walk her outside, take her on bus outings, and some even enjoy cuddling with her in bed. Willow has been an amazing addition to our home.
A care team member, Lisa, has been picking up shifts to help. On her day off, she specifically came in to do some gardening with a resident because she saw that it would rain on the day they were originally scheduled for, and Lisa didn't want this resident to be disappointed!
Miranda, a 17-year-old high school student, is a fun team member whose passion for incorporating music to promote happiness and well-being has led her to Seasons. She showcases "Music with Miranda" once a week, featuring different activities focused on music therapy. Miranda goes the extra mile and engages residents who are less likely to participate. She has a calming persona and exudes the person-centred care approach.
Seasons Brantford
Seasons Brantford sees acts of kindness between our Service Team Members toward our residents every day! Our team shows kindness to each other by jumping in to help other departments when support is needed and by picking up extra shifts to help each other out. They show kindness to our residents in so many ways; giving them a special hairstyle, enjoying time outside with them on a nice day, knowing their drink preference even before they sit down to dinner, or simply greeting them with a smile.
Seasons Cambridge
Jackie, our concierge, goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. She creates meaningful moments by listening to a resident when they are having a hard day or want to share exciting things happening in their lives. Jackie is a great team player and will pick up shifts to help support the team. She also happens to be our housekeeper Joanna’s mom!
Joanna, one of our dedicated housekeepers, spreads kindness with her team spirit! She always has her hair coloured differently, which has been a great icebreaker with our residents. This month, Joanna has kindly contributed her hair to our local hospice fundraiser. Our home is collecting donations, and at the end of the month, Seniorosity residents and staff from Lisaard House Hospice will be colouring Joanna’s hair purple and turquoise, their company colours. Her generosity and giving spirit are a great addition to our team and community. Both Jackie and Joanna are positive forces on our team and care about making other peoples’ day.
Our new cook, Otto, goes out of his way to visit Memory Care and ask our residents if they are enjoying their meal! Though this is part of our cook’s helper role, Otto still makes a point to go up to the floor and see how everyone is doing!
Seasons Camrose
Dianne, our laundry person, always sings and dances with our residents. She spends her lunch playing the piano and encouraging residents who have not played in years to try it, and she is always successful. She 100% makes a difference with each resident she crosses paths with daily!
Seasons Clarington
Colleen, our concierge, would sit with a resident when the local paper came in and read all the highlights to him. This resident was visually impaired, and this kept him up-to-date on current events.
Seasons Drayton Valley
Team member Shauna always shows kindness, ensuring one particular resident comes to activities. She then takes a couple of minutes to help the resident get comfortable. Afterwards, Shauna accompanies the resident to her suite and gives her a drink when she is settled.
Our home is also hatching chicks, and our concierge staff and residents are showing kindness by helping clean the pen and ensuring the chicks have food and fresh water. Everyone is so kind in caring for these babies and communicating with each other about what has been/needs to be done.

One of our residents was shopping on their own in town, and they forgot their cane at the store and didn’t feel like they could make it back. Team member Dianne went to that store after their shift, picked up the cane, and brought it back to our home for the resident. They were so pleased by this kind gesture.

Team member Lisa goes above and beyond in her job. While cleaning the residents’ rooms, her positive attitude always makes them smile and laugh.
Sarah is a team member who takes time out of her busy week to help buy and make goody bags on each holiday for the residents. She makes sure to customize each bag specifically based on every individual resident.
Seasons Royal Oak Village
Samantha is new to our concierge team. She has worked hard to learn the names of our residents, their family members, and any guests. Sami loves to be able to greet them personally when they come to the desk or call on the phone. This creates a warm feeling and makes our residents and everyone else feel special.
Our concierge Loubna takes the time to listen to every story and connects not only with our residents but also with their families. She is kind in every interaction. Loubna has a way of always making people feel loved and important.
Leasing Manager Tammy is devoted to learning as many details as possible about our prospects and new residents. By the time they are set to move in, she has already shared so much about them that our entire team feels like they know them, allowing for many personalized greetings on move-in day!
Dietary aid Janet has also gone above and beyond on her breaks or after her shifts when she assists some of our residents by taking their dogs for walks. She has even stepped in to help when it is too cold or rainy!
Seasons Strathroy
Our housekeeper Tracey always goes above and beyond by assisting residents with their TVs, helping them find things on the activity board and offering everyday support. She finds out little things about each resident and then goes out of her way to provide those meaningful moments. She is the first team member to jump in when a department needs support and is always happy to help. Tracey is a true reflection of Connect, Care Change.
Our care staff are experts at building strong, meaningful relationships with our residents. They consistently exemplify compassion and caring from the moment they arrive in the building for the start of their shift until after their work is done.
Seasons Owen Sound
Mary-Anne, a care team member, helps our Busy Fingers Knitting Group by donating her knitted items to sell so the group can raise even more money for charity. She always says that if it doesn’t sell quickly, we can just drop the price!
Dining team member Sierra helps out Catherine, our Fun Manager, on outings, by calling bingo and helping residents with puzzles or filling out their menus.
If Allison from housekeeping ever sees one of our residents having a tough time finding their room, she will not hesitate to drop whatever she is doing to help the resident back to their suite.
When Helen on our care team has extra time, she will visit and chat with residents who don’t participate in many activities or get visitors too often. She always tries to make sure they have a good day.
Family members have also recognized care team members Jackie and Jenny, who work on the night shift. If a resident feels a little lonely or uneasy, they take the time to sit with the resident and talk them through it.
