Why I Love To Hand Paint Skateboards

One of the things I love to create, on top of everything else is skateboard art. I hand paint these for fine wall art. Why? Well first up plywood/wood painting has always been 'a thing' of mine I prefer it over canvas usually. I love having a non white colour to 'pop off' of. The surface is moderately smooth with just a little grunge.

My next reason is a little selfish. Once I learnt to trust my instincts and not obsessively plan, I loosened up, and once I started flowing I found a similar relaxed state that only noodling on the guitar for an hour conjured up. Yes the art business can be damn stressful but this is also part of my 'zone out' happy time. With skateboards I am also not relegated to a studio, garage or gimp dungeon. I can still socialize, watch TV, sit in bed (yeah right) as a skateboard is pretty transportable.

Working all day on a 16:9 ratio screen and on A4, A3 paper etc sets up particular ratios to work with, skateboards are tall and thin and make me reevaluate the shapes I would normally try. Boundaries can really help cement your style. They also make rad triptychs!

Choosing markers and paintbrushes stops me going too detail based (Pencils and Fineliners can be an instigator of this...) It's also where I hone my ideas for more corporate promotional items (go check out my SteelSeries stuff - more coming from that soon!)

So if you have a lonely wall, a house you are trying to sell, an interior designer, have an office you are trying to make a little more "Street Geek" or frothing to license my style hit me up.
