Why I love "corrugated" garbage #sustainablity

During my career in corrugated packaging, I have spent most of my time creating and promoting its artistic design features as a point-of-sale application and instore differentiator. I have consistently created award winning food packaging campaigns and marketed flexography as a consumer brand magnet. ?Why then am I so enamored with garbage? ?It’s the back end of corrugated that really has the razzle dazzle. ??
As concerns over environmental sustainability continue to grow, consumers and businesses alike are increasingly prioritizing waste reduction and landfill diversion. Our packaging material offers a compelling solution - a versatile, recyclable, and renewable resource that is helping drive the shift away from landfill disposal.
Traditional landfills pose significant environmental challenges. As organic waste decomposes, it releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Landfills also risk contaminating nearby soil and groundwater with toxic leachate. Furthermore, the sheer volume of waste occupying valuable land area is unsustainable, especially as global populations and consumption continue to rise.
Corrugated packaging offers a clear alternative to landfill-bound waste. As a recyclable material, corrugated packaging that is discarded as garbage, can be repurposed into new products rather than ending up in landfills. Through our recycling process we recover most corrugated boxes in the United States. ?Plus, our substrate is renewable, as it is primarily derived from wood pulp - a sustainable raw material sourced from responsibly managed forests.
The inherent recyclability of corrugated packaging aligns with the principles of the circular economy, which emphasizes reuse, repair, and regeneration to keep materials in circulation for as long as possible. By embracing corrugated, businesses can reduce their reliance on virgin materials and minimize the amount of packaging waste destined for landfills and that my friends is good garbage.
