Why I just can't seem to keep my shirt on

As I have written before, my grandmother would always say to me, "Chris, keep your shirt on."?She meant it as advice to be patient.?Patience has always been something I have struggled with, and I try to remember her words when I get frustrated: With my kids as they have grown; With my body as I have grown older and worked through injuries; With traffic down to the Cape on a Friday; With society as it works through the many challenges that face us.
But there are some things that I won't be patient with. Finding cures for Pediatric Cancer is one. As is creating more resources for families and kids battling cancer.?I founded Tech Tackles Cancer several years ago as a way to accelerate fundraising for organizations dedicated to these issues.
I am enormously proud of the success of Tech Tackles Cancer 2022. We brought together 14 fundraising performers from tech companies from Boston and beyond. Over 40 corporate sponsors came to the table with financial resources. Several hundred individuals donated to the cause. We raised over $300K for St. Baldricks Foundation and One Mission. This organization is much bigger than just me, but I feel a highly personal connection to it and share the feeling of success after Tuesday's sold out event.
As I channeled the energy of my punk rock idols on stage - it felt like a constructive way to direct my impatience.?I sang EMI by the Sex Pistols - a song where they channeled their own impatience with society surrounding their breakup with EMI records.
I get very impatient with people, organizations, and mindsets that are too comfortable in their own little bubbles, who don't think about giving back or helping out, and most importantly, who don't lead from the front. I get very impatient with people that can't see beyond their immediate interests.
