Why I Joined UiPath...

Leaving my last role to join UiPath wasn’t easy as I was leading an amazing group of sales professionals in a very exciting space: using ERP to drive digital transformation. Companies must leverage digital technologies to compete and these new approaches are shaping the future of work. In fact, the future of work is a topic so near and dear to my heart that I started a blog last year called True North to add to the discussion around how we adapt, and even thrive, doing the things humans are best at as AI and automation become common in the workplace. And then came UiPath, which is approaching the future of work from a different angle all together - using robotic process automation (RPA).

When I was recruited by UiPath and started doing my research, I simply could not ignore what was going on in the adjacent RPA space. The speed of innovation in RPA is eye opening and UiPath stands out uniquely for empowering its customers to “Reboot Work” by using software bots to create new digital processes. Naturally, it became really hard not to want to be a part of it.

The first thing that catches your eye when you are researching UiPath is, of course, the growth. It has been an amazing couple years of unprecedented year over year growth. It is not just the pure revenue growth, but the fact that UiPath is global from birth with the enviable position of a customer base spread evenly between Americas, EMEA and Asia. This type of global footprint in such a young company is extraordinarily rare and was really compelling to me.

Then there is the market’s opinion of UiPath’s standing in the industry. Customers are glowing about their quick ROI and the way UiPath’s openness allowed them to adopt the new technology in an iterative way. Multiple industry analysts have UiPath as the top-rated technology in RPA and experienced investors such as Sequoia, Accel, and Google have valued UiPath as the top AI company in all of technology. There is no question that the space and the company are on an extraordinary trajectory, but I needed to know if the company was really right for me.

I started to learn more about the culture and found that it stands out as uniquely authentic because of the roots of the company. The company values are: Be Bold, Act Fast, Immerse Yourself and be Humble. The combination of being humble and bold is part of the UiPath DNA and was born out of the founders’ story of how they are building the RPA software market. Those values are important for salespeople because a common purpose drives commitment to execute and more importantly is the special sauce that largely defines the customer experience. Daniel, our CEO, and the Board are obsessed with making our customers successful and you can see the positive effect that has had on the customer experience. Building a sales organization in technology founded on being humble and bold are totally aligned with my values and will be a competitive advantage.

Finally, being in sales, I was naturally most attracted to the market opportunity, which is almost unlimited. UiPath makes robots so that people don’t have to be robots – which can improve so many people’s lives. Nearly every existing business function has an opportunity for automation with this technology and that type of breadth allows UiPath to transform companies. The ability to deliver transformational value is what every top notch sales person wants because it allows you to be relevant from the boardroom to the shop floor.

The main takeaway I learned from my research was that this is a generational opportunity and we are only at the beginning of what is going to be an exciting run of success as UiPath’s customers transform with RPA. UiPath is on the front lines of what academics are calling the Fourth Industrial Revolution where digital technology can liberate workers from tasks that could be automated, freeing them to concentrate on addressing more complex business issues and giving them more autonomy. Making the move to UiPath has put me at the epicenter for innovation that will define the future of work and improve peoples’ lives.

I am thrilled about the potential UiPath has and am excited for anyone in sales who joins this incredible company. I know I will look back in a few years and see this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Thanks Seth and I agree, this is the final catalyst to driving the world into the 4th Industrial Revolution - it is already having a huge impact on the business world and I am certain RPA & AI will be the final "hair" that drives a global review of the education system....
