Why I Joined ByteDance

Over last few months I have received many questions from friends, former colleagues and people I encountered at conferences about "Why I left Microsoft Research Asia for ByteDance." For people who are thinking of their career, I guess it may be helpful to share some of my personal experiences. Here is my answer: Curiosity and wanting to move out of a comfort zone for new challenges and opportunities to learn new things. ByteDance is an amazing company with excellent people doing a lot of exciting new things that I am eager to learn; Embracing the growth mindset because I have been influenced by it in Microsoft (There is a book called "Growth Mindset: A New Psychology of Success" that has more details about it); Lastly I need to overcome the fear. Personally I am a Christian, so I looked deeply into my heart for guidance and had many fellowships with my God and my family on this move. At the end I was confident that it's a right move for me even though I didn't know where it will lead me to. But I knew deeply in my heart that I will be fine and I just need to start. So I did. Now I am working in Toutiao and every day is a new day to me! I am sure that I will face many new challenges, but I believe that "only thing we have to fear is fear itself" (by Franklin D. Roosevelt).

4 年Just had a chance to read it. Absolutely agree with you. To move out of your comfort zone is the most challenging part. And the scary one. Have pretty much same story, but changed my working areas completely. Started as a wood manufacture technologist then indoor tourism specialist and currently - digital marketeer (plus dozens of projects in-between). Hard turns always needs a good tires.
