Why Did I Join My MLM Company?
When I talk to others interested in starting a home internet business they often ask me why I joined the company I'm with and how I made that decision. Well first with full disclosure, I've joined many network marketing companies over the years. In my early days I would join a new company if I thought it would be easier to get people to join me and for them to do the same.
After flip flopping for years I finally realized that my success had little to do with the company and much to do with me. I also realized that building a team of like-minded people was going to take time and hard work. If I was really going to do this, it was going to be with the best company for me at that time and no looking back, so I started my search.
I've learned the best company is one you truly believe in and has a long solid track record. It also really helps if you are already buying the same type of products, so there is really no additional out of pocket expense. There are many other factors in choosing a company so I decided to start a list, (no particular order).
I was already buying nutritional products regularly before I started promoting the business opportunity. (I had been in and out of wellness opportunities with very little success for years). I was sick and tired of mlm and told myself that I would never join another one but knew I needed the additional nutrition.
A long time network marketing friend was with a company that had very good health, wellness and green products that interested me. Our friendship went back about 15 years with mlm but with friends and church family too. It's very important to work with people that you like spending time with.
The business opportunity had a low start up cost, and no gotcha's. That was big for me because so many other companies have that one thing they didn't tell you up front, I call them "The Gotcha's". So with a low start up cost you can get inside the company and have a real good look around before making a commitment.
Let me explain what I believe the reason is for a high start up cost or requiring a large product purchase up front. Believe it or not most people quit the first month, they get in, they discover the "gotchas", realize this wont be easy and their gone. But the company takes full advantage of that fact with not only the start up cost but what does your sponsor ask you for the very first day, a list of your family and friends.

The highly over priced products with mlm companies was a biggie for me to get over. It was very important for me to feel that the products were wroth the money I forked out. I was not going to ask someone to purchase products that I felt were over priced that's for sure. So reasonable priced products with the understanding of the high quality was a must.
I believe the reason for the high cost is to cover all the performance bonus's paid out to the recruiting pro's. The truth is a rational person will not continue to pay for over priced products plus website fees and marketing cost without results for very long before they will give up and quit. Now you've lost the person that was willing to put in the time and hard work to build a business, devastating.
The longevity of the company is way up there on the list. New companies and products are exciting but not always worth the risk. 100's of mlm companies close up and are shut down every year. Building a network marketing business is an investment not only of money but of time, hard work, emotions. You would not plain your retirement with a new start-up investment company.
Once you find a good solid company that you feel will be around to pay your kids and grand-kids and you love the products just stick with it. MLM is no different than any other business, it takes time and consistent action. I would suggest finding a mentor, someone that understands the industry and will be honest with you. And if you don't love working with people regardless of the outcome mlm may not be for you, I'm always here to help you.
