Why I joined Harness

Why I joined Harness

I could not be more excited than to join Harness as the Director of Product Marketing for Continuous Delivery solutions. This team has built awesome products and has a killer strategy. The opportunity to work side by side with old friends and respected competitors is exhilarating.

What initially attracted me to Harness was not only their exceptional talent pool, but their significant strides in innovation in the CD industry. My career, deeply rooted in the CD sector, allowed me to appreciate the depth of Harness' achievements.

More importantly, the team has delivered astounding innovation. When. I stepped out of the CD space two years ago, they were an interesting option for cloud native deployments. In the interim, they've added efficient CI capabilities, feature flags, cloud cost management, productivity insights, security orchestration, and more; all underpinned by AI capabilities that identify errors and reduce toil.

Harness and CD Space

As someone who has spent the better part of his career in the CD space, I've seen a cycle of integrated and dis-integrated offerings. Standalone CI was the thing in the early 2000s. By the mid-2000s, CI and CD were merged in tools like AnthillPro, BuildForge and ElectricCommander. The mid-to-late 2010s were largely an era of disintegration. We saw Jenkins for CI and release automation solutions for deployment. Meanwhile, a slew of new DevOps categories including release management, feature flags, and environment infrastructure management formed a web of powerful, but expensive to integrate toolchains. Over the past few years, we've seen a move towards simplification through re-integration.

Too often, that's been a collection of "maybe just good enough" capabilities slapped together. Harness has put together a number of modules which are each best-of-breed and can be plugged into anyone's toolchains. But combined, they "form Voltron" delivering kick-ass cloud native DevOps that's easy to manage at scale.

Final Thought

Harness embodies the future of DevOps tooling - a future where teams don't have to compromise between quality point tools and comprehensive, yet subpar packages. I am excited to be part of this journey towards a seamless, fun, and efficient software delivery process. Here's to building the future, one line of code at a time!
