Why I Joined the Board of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation
I am grateful to the editors of the Sydney Morning Herald for today publishing my article explaining why I joined the Board of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation (www.ramsaycentre.org). The article is here: https://www.smh.com.au/national/why-i-joined-the-board-of-the-ramsay-centre-20190122-p50sv3.html
Some might be interested in the longer article from which the published piece was drawn. I called that “Supping at the Ramsay Centre”.
See this link: https://www.ramsaycentre.org/why-i-joined-the-ramsay-centre-timeless-issues-are-to-the-fore/
And this quote:
"Far from being a businessman’s fantasy to subvert universities to a narrow frame of thinking, the Ramsay Centre is a radical endeavour to invigorate a non-utilitarian spirit of fearless scholarship. That’s why I joined."

5 年Nice comment Michael. Nick Riemer’s comment in the SMH today strikes me as no more than a pseudo academic looking for a ‘photo’ opportunity to express a view point that has little depth or understanding of the need to have a comprehensive understanding of how the past can and should be interwoven with the complex future facing us all. Golly, how my old alma mater has failed the future student searching to build a better world for us all!

5 年The appalling defiency of ethics revealed by the recent Royal Commissions - eg into Financial Services, Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse - shows the great need to reflect on societal values. It is surprising - and telling - that a need to justify an involvement in such studies is felt.

5 年Thanks for the insight Michael. I read the piece that was published in the SMH and now have a much clearer understanding than previously provided in the media reporting.
