Earlier today, I was training a client who’s super well-traveled and into fitness. We got chatting about our favourite classes like F45, Rumble, and the rest.
We were talking about how classes are great for burning calories, they’re social, and you get out what you put in. You can go 100% all out or take it at your own pace.
But here’s something I’ve learned after 16 years in the industry. . .
lifting classes ?
Not really my favorite. They’re too fast-paced, and that often leads to unnecessary injuries. Lifting isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” situation. Everyone’s bio-mechanics are different, which means lifting needs to be tailored to the individual. Combining high-intensity cardio with heavy lifting in a class setting is a recipe for disaster—bad form, muscle overloading, and injuries. Plus it's impossible for the trainer to watch all 30 people in the room whilst they're maxing out on their lifts!
Over the years, I’ve actually had a fair share of new clients come to me after getting hurt in a lifting class, looking for guidance so they never have to go through that again.
So, here’s my advice: if you’re serious about getting in shape, focus on a structured?training routine. Hit the gym, work hard, follow a program, and aim to progress each month.?Then?add classes on top of that for the calorie burn and fun.
In short: training routine = steady progress. Classes = fun add-on. Do both, and you’ll crush your goals.
