Why I Got Only 24 Hours (Today) to Raise A Funding Round

Earlier this month I came back from maternity leave and its been a world wind of a time doing a funding round! I saw the trend in founders raising equity capital amongst the crowd and thought, we should not just do a private investment round. So I did it.

I launched a capital raise for my company- Global Startup Ecosystem (GSE) with the public with Start Engine via https://www.startengine.com/global-startup-ecosystem!

Here are 3 things that surprised me!?

1. I had no idea that founders can raise investment rounds with the public. I am so pumped to rally my network to jump in as investors. Many of which have told me that this is their first time! :)?
2. That many people were unaware of the major gaps in tech hub platforms in Africa and the Caribbean. We take our tech hubs?in the USA for granted. When I started this mission in 2017- people joined me in Haiti because it was a good thing to do. Now I have dozens of Fortune 500 partners who have made it their mandate to expand to emerging markets. Um... that's 108 countries to penetrate. We got a busy few years ahead!?
3. That not enough founders of color do crowd equity rounds. We know the stats on funding but there is not enough conversations around this alternative to raise capital. Instead of bootstrapping organically- we are leveraging hundreds of individuals?to scale our company faster. The sky is the limit! Meet me on the moon. :)?

So it's been a really amazing but trying period raising a capital round with the community. But alongside private investors, I think it will be the future of capital raising for founders.
