Why I got my COVID-19 and Flu jab

Tracy Luckett, our Chief Nurse, shares her vaccination experience.

I’ve been lucky enough to work very closely with our vaccine team while they set up and run the clinic onsite at GOSH over the past few weeks. This has been no mean feat and has taken a huge effort from brilliant colleagues from across the hospital. Staff from rostering, training, communications, space and place, service managers, the booking team, our reception staff and volunteer vaccinators to name but a few have been working hard to deliver this service to us here at GOSH.?

So far, they’ve given over 4,500 vaccines to staff, to keep our colleagues and our patients protected from COVID-19 and flu this winter. Well done everyone.?

For some people, flu and COVID-19 can be serious and, as someone who works in a hospital, you’re more likely to be exposed to the flu and COVID-19 viruses. With winter on the way (or already here judging by the darkness when I leave the office!), now is time to top up your immunity with a COVID-19 booster and a flu vaccine to keep yourself and those you care for safe.?

I had my COVID-19 vaccine a couple of weeks ago, and my flu vaccine more recently and I found the whole process so accessible and efficient. The clinic is easy to access and the whole experience took around ten minutes. Saba vaccinated me and she was brilliant, quick and relatively painless.

Book your own vaccine

I’m really pleased to say that the vaccine clinic is still open as the Trust realises that not all staff have had the opportunity to take up the vaccine yet. Please make an appointment via the staff booking portal or drop into the clinic. ?

If you have questions or concerns, we have provided answers to frequently asked questions on our staff intranet, where you can also post questions in the staff forum. Steph and Daniel from the clinic are on hand to answer any queries you may have. I’d also be happy for you to reach out to me.?For my wider NHS colleagues, make sure to book in at your Trust's vaccine clinic.

Thank you for taking the important steps towards protecting yourselves, your family, colleagues and our patients.?
