I feel that racism has always been quite a touchy subject – some people like to be in denial, others get too riled up about the issues and it just causes friction all round. But if things aren’t talked about, then issues don’t get resolved.?
Sexism is an issue that is talked about a lot more openly, but again, it can cause a divide as many men now get scared of how they phrase things or acting in a certain way as they may get accused of being sexist.
I wanted to create The Black Female Boss a few years ago when I was struggling to deal with sexism and racism in the workplace. Every time something would happen, I would get very upset and hide away in my office and not deal with it very well. I felt that I didn’t have anyone to confide in about these issues because people didn’t like talking about this sort of thing or denied it was even going on.?
Worse still, when I did try to open up, people didn’t believe me! So, it made me feel even more crap. I always wished that I had someone to talk to who understood what I was going through, believed me, and could offer me some advice.?
So, that’s what The Black Female Boss is all about. I am creating a blog, which will be full of stories, resources and advice about how to handle sexism and racism in the workplace. I want women and people of colour to feel like they have a safe space to discuss the issues they’re facing and have people who can support them through it.?
So, even though it’s called the Black Female Boss, those who don’t identify as female are still?most welcome! Likewise, it doesn’t have to only be for black people, but any minority. Ideally, it will also be a great resource for those who aren’t considered to be a minority to help them be aware of what is going on and can also do their bit to help.?
I recently started a podcast and I love finding really inspiring women to be on the show. So far, I have a 2:1 ratio of women:men on the show, and this includes all my upcoming guests! So, I love that so much. Each episode has an inspirational takeaway and is designed to help inspire entrepreneurs and small business owners. So, if you feel that you fit into this category, then please do give it a listen.?

Here's a snippet from one episode, from a very inspiring Black Female Boss – Rosemary Ikpeme, founder of Mynd Map.?
If you’d like to be a guest on the show, please do reach out and let me know! Please also tag someone into the post if you think they would make a great guest!
Anyway, I hope you all like the idea of the Black Female Boss, as the idea is to help inspire and support people, rather than it be a place of complaining about issues etc. With this inspiration, I was able to create a hugely inspiring group of BAME Agency Legends who all supported each other during lockdown. A big shoutout to Tobi, Dino, Melin, Suds, Tom, Andre and Zaf who were all incredible – I hope that the BFB will bring more people together like this.?
Check out the website?here?and let me know what sort of stories you want to hear about! If you know anyone who has a story to tell, I always appreciate an intro!?
Congratulations on launching the Black Female Boss blog! ???? Maya Angelou once said - If you're always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be. Your courage to create a safe space for sharing and supporting others is truly inspiring. ??? Remember, every challenge we overcome, empowers someone else to do the same.
