I know you may be thinking TV is a great way to relax.
I get to spend time with my family, loved ones, after a hard day at work. One is a great way to connect with my loved one, right. Watching TV and just catching up on good old shows right. But TV actually wastes time.
SO WHY DON’T I WATCH TV?
There’s a study that shows that the average American spends about 5.1 hours a day watching television that's about 150 hours a month in about 2.5 months out of the year. Now, I know that you may be thinking but I spend time with my loved one but are you? Right? Because what do you do when you're watching on television, it has been shown that television actually lowers your brain activity right.
And what does that mean?
1. There's a reason why they call it couch potato right because when you do your fixating to a television.
In addition to that, you're eating, right, eating. Your posture is not the greatest and you're sitting here in front of the television and having information going to your brain right. So that's another reason why you know I don't watch TV.
2. Television has a lot of advertisements and again there's a reason why.
Of course, it's a business to have, to make money and the result of an advertisement. Well, what does that mean? What does that do in terms of your mindset? Basically what it does is that it provides you with information in your brain and what happens? Without conscience clean, without beings’ conscience, when you go to a store do you really buy the product?
3. Not watching TV has helped so many people and that I know will be more successful in terms of accomplishing their goal.
I remember once when I was in Vegas, my uncle told me the following because what I used to do is when I see someone, the youngsters, millennials doing as well is that they have their television or could be older people as well big rewards or anybody what we do is that we tend to schedule or risk program by based on our schedule, right?
I remember back then, Oprah’s at 4:00. Whatever you need to do, you have to hurry up unless you had a VCR and go in front of the television at 4:00 to watch just Oprah, of course, if it's all price find its intellectual, it's motivating, it helps us to help you know to create a better life for ourselves.
However, if they are shows that are not products that are not in that, it does not give you any value to help you take your life further.
I like the way my Uncle Willie told me once. He told me to want one day I skipped school to hurry up and watch my favorite soap opera which I think at that time was I think it was “One Life to Live” and he told me that you know, usually he's more severe but that one time I remember it he told me, “You know the people that you're watching on television that you skipped school for today, they’re already successful. They went to school, didn't skip school. They worked hard to get to where they are and now you're stopping your life to encourage their already successful life. You know that’s all that I needed to hear. Ever since then, I didn't skip school and I put television second and my life, my own life as a priority right.
So let's say we stop watching TV which by the way it's been 17 years since I stopped watching television.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO INSTEAD?
- GO EXERCISE.
Instead of being on television, GO IN NATURE. Go look at the sunset after work. Go for a walk in nature with your loved ones right.
- COMMUNICATE.
Speak face to face versus having noise in the background right.
- MEDITATE.
Meditate together which on yoga, yoga class and do some yoga
- JOURNAL.
You could journal what happened to you throughout the day. Write about what are your small successes and what you're grateful for.
- PLAN FOR THE FUTURE.
Think of what else can you do to take your life the next step.
So, I encourage you to take a challenge and remove television for 21 days or 30 days and see what you can do to improve your life during those days.
I hope you got value from this article. It would mean a lot to me if you share this. :)
